Garfield

It was a fine and warm week weather wise with the temperature really climbing the scale on the weekend.

Saturday’s game of single stableford attracted a field of 99 with the scoring being of a high standard. In fact a handicap score of 36 points or better was needed to get a ball down the line. Darren Stanton equalled the day’s best score and returned to the winners list with a fine round of 42 points to defeat Greg Mackiln, having a good run by two points to win the A Grade event.

Martin Spurway shot the same score as Stanton to win the B Grade event by the three points from Nick Howe. John M Gay also had a nice round with a winning score of 41 points to defeat the 86 year old John Garner for the C Grade decision.

A good day for scoring was further highlighted by the fact that 17 birdies were achieved on the par threes with Chris Davies scoring a double. Shane Male gets a shout out for his 38 points playing off his mark of just three whilst also scoring an eagle three on the par five first in Thursday’s twilight event and just to top off his week nicely he also won the spinning wheel prize of $36 on Thursday evening.

Trevor Franklin has put together an outstanding summer, which started off by winning the December Monthly Medal, then having the three down the lines with scores of 35, 36 and 37 points whilst also winning the A Grade event on the 27/12/20 with a score of 39 points.

Not stopping there he also teamed up with his wife Gail to win the family day event then coming out last Monday and winning the A Grade event with a round of 40 points. During this period his handicap has come down from 13 to 10 with it just being a matter of time before it arrives at single figures.

The West Gippsland Veteran’s recently played a game at Pakenham with a Garfield Member finally finishing in the winning results with Steve O’Loughlin winning the C Grade event with a round of 40 points by a count back decision.

The members would like to give the Pakenham club a big shout out for a well organised event and a very nice serving of lunch. Read below for the full results.

The next event is to be played at Mirboo North on the 1ST of February as a 4 Ball event. Contact our delegate John Scale for all the details. A field of 52 came out on Thursday with the highlight being a hole in one achieved by Richard Perry on the par three 8TH hole. After watching his playing partner, a furious Kevin Whitmore, stick it to just the one metre Perry went all the way with his ace. However Whitmore had the last laugh as he won the A Grade event on a count back from John Scale with a round of 39 points.

Paul Kaye had the day’s best score of 43 points to win the B Grade event by the three points from Nev Howe. Sepp Krummenacher got the nod, also by a count back decision, by winning the C Grade event from Brendan Pola with a score of 41 points. A final score of 36 points or better was required to get a ball down the line. Whitmore topped off his day nicely by scoring two birdies.
