Warriors claim thrilling win

- by Joel Batson

Western Park 6/172 def Yarragon 166 Yarragon has defeated Western Park in an absolute thriller on the weekend.

Batting first, the Warriors- through Sam “Fish” Cheeseman, looked to put a solid total on the board- however apart from Cheeseman, it seemed to be mostly Yarragon’s game. The left-handed opener made a brilliant 84 that some would think is several years in the making, whilst Michael Rabl (32) proved some late-hitting to push the score to a defendable 6-172 on the pristine Yarragon ground, as Paul Harvey (2-17) and Hamish McDonald (2-33) pegged their opponents back.

In reply, it was seemingly Western Park’s six points as Jason Batson (2-16), Connor McCluskey (2-46) and Fletcher Kennedy (255) helped reduce the home side to 5-59. However, they didn’t account for John Allsop, the WDCA legend knew to take the game deep, and he did. With 15 required off the last over, the towering left-hander managed to continue his boundary hitting streak to close the gap to seven runs off three balls, but Michael Rabl (3-33) proved to be clutch with the ball, dismissing Allsop to win the game for his team.

Catani 9/137 def v Neerim District 7/134 Catani has beaten Neerim District in an another thriller on the weekend. Bowling first, Catani strangled Neerim on the slow Catani ground, as the likes of Ryan Smith (2-15), Danny Brewster (2-20) and Leigh Jose (2-24) gave the Stags absolutely nothing to work with. Some late-hitting from Marc Tymkin (38) saved his side, as they made 7-134, needing a quality bowling performance to secure a victory.

Carter Davis provided this with the new balltaking 3-23, as Catani faltered. Danny Brewster (58) played a match-defining innings, as the game came down to the wire late. Brad Drews (3-27) was clutch with the ball to seemingly put the game in Neerim’s hands, before one last gasp, a tenth-wicket stand from Nathaniel Wade (10*) and Cameron Wagstaff (2*), scraped Catani over the line in rapturous scenes.

Garfield-Tynong 9/100 def by Ellinbank 0/101

Ellinbank has continued their stranglehold over the division, annihilating GarfieldTynong on the weekend.

Bowling first, the Eagles- through Tim Brown (4-4) who provided one of the tightest spells you will ever see in one-day cricketstrangled the Titans into submission. Only Steven Lewis (58) was able to find the boundary with regularity, as Garfield-Tynong crept to a meagre total of 9-100 off their allotted overs, as Jeremy Gray (2-30) bowled a crucial spell.

In reply, Ellinbank claimed the six points with ease, as Sam Pratt (49*) and Chris Pallot (47*) wiped away the runs in just 23 overs, Ellinbank’s percentage receiving a big boost with the ten-wicket victory.
