Vela’s 47 helps side to 151

- Longwarry/Catani Yarragon/Hallora

Under 16s: 6/151

vs

Longwarry/Catani have put a menacing score on the board in week one of their clash against Yarragon/Hallora.

Led by Jayden Vela’s 47 at the top of the order alongside keeper Sam Colemans 20, the pair got their side off to the perfect start, adding 77 before a mini collapse saw them go from 0/77 to 5/99 thanks to some tidy bowling Cadence Walker who took 2/16.

Some late run scoring from Rylan Berryman (29*) and Ben Fort (20*) though helped Longwarry/Catani to 6/151 at the close of their 40 overs, making it a tough chase for their opposition next week.

Garfield-Tynong 9/121 vs Drouin

In what looks to be a match very much in the balance, Garfield-Tynong will be hoping to secure victory over Drouin next week, and vice versa.

After being sent in under sunny skies, Raphael Hayward (26) set to work, scoring freely at the top of the order as he watched his partners dismissed at the other end.

Drouin used a balanced attack, with all eight bowlers used claiming a wicket as they managed to not allow the Titans to form partnerships.

Finally, they found one, with a 33 run stand from Theodore Zaccari (16) and Luke Valentich (13) late in the innings pushing the Titans total to a respectable 9/121, with the pick of the bowlers being Ryan Maric (1/14 from seven overs) and Ibby Wahid (1/8 from six overs), with the match poised to be a close one in week two.

Warragul 6/122 def Drouin 6/86

The extras were the difference in the match between Warragul and Drouin last Monday night. Warragul were able to make 6/122 thanks to 51 free runs from the Drouin side, which came back to hurt them in their innings.

Only Harrison Radcliffe was able to find bat on ball easy enough, his well made 20* holding the side together, but the total was just too much to handle, with Drouin falling short by 37 runs.

Longwarry/Garfield 8/45 def by Yarragon White 4/74

Some tight bowling from Yarragon White has seen them take victory over Longwarry/Garfield in fine fashion.

Led by Cameron Thompson’s 2/5, Yarragon didn’t give their opponents an inch and made them work for every run, with only 14 extras throughout the innings. They weren’t able to dismiss Clancy Pope though, his retired 20* the cornerstone of the innings as the side only managed 8/45 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Noah McDonald (retired 15*) and Cameron Thompson (retired 20*) set to work, both setting the platform as the team whisked past the score of 46 needed for victory, finishing 4/74 after their 20 overs, to claim the points.

Western Park Blue 1/119 def Hallora 4/67 A fantastic Finn Sheehan spell of bowling has seen Western Park beat Hallora at home. Batting first, Hallora were only able to muster 4/67 from their 20 overs, with Sheehan the star, taking 2/6 from three overs to slow the run rate right down.

In reply, the first five batsman from Western Park all retired not out, as Finn Sheehan laid claim to best on ground honours, backing up his bowling with 20*, well supported by Brock Sawyer (20*) as the team quickly ran down the total and added some more late in the afternoon, finishing 1/119 to send a message to the rest of the league.

Yarragon Black 8/44 def by Western Park White 1/84

A terrific batting display has set up victory for Western Park White against Yarragon Black.

Captain Tom Fawcett (20*), Tom Logan (20*) and Hunter Dunstan (20*) set the platform for the side, all retiring before allowing some pinch hitting from Oliver Hilton to finish off the innings 1/84 from their 20 overs. Ben Jilbert was the lone wicket taker for Yarragon, finishing with 1/11.

In reply, Yarragon was met with a Ty Ward onslaught, the Western Park opener claiming 3/6 in three overs to decimate the top order, with only Addison Cumming able to withstand the attack, finishing 21*, as he watched his side slide to 8/44 after 20 overs.

Ward was well supported by Oliver Hilton (1/5) and Tom Fawcett (1/1) as Western Park White drew within striking distance of the finals.
