First win for Crows
Longwarry 3/151 def Catani 8/147 (cc) Saturday marked an historic day for Longwarry’s all-female division 6 side as they recorded their first ever win.
Joined by former Australian cricketer Sarah Elliott as guest coach and marquis player Bhavisha Devchand the special day started with a pre-game clinic, hosted by Elliott, which was well attended and saw five new players sign-up.
With the fun and games out of the way it was down to business with the toss of the coin going in Catani’s favour who elected to bat first. Led by Sam Coleman (52 retired n.o.) who brought up his maiden half-century, the Cats built up handy partnerships despite relentless pressure from Cadence Walker who snared a career first five-wicket haul. Handy contributions came from Shane Kerr with 33 and Liam Barrow 25 as the visitors set a reasonable target.
After much anticipation it was time for the
Bhavi show and the Melbourne Stars allrounder didn’t disappoint. She quickly reached 55 retired not out, getting the Crows off to a flying start and giving her teammates the confidence to push on and take the six points.
Yarragon 9/93 (cc) def by Drouin 1/94 Yarragon were put to the sword by ladder leaders Drouin at the weekend.
Chasing a meagre target, Jamie Lehman went on the attack, rapidly reaching 50 retired not out as the Hawks looked to bring the game to an early conclusion.
Duane Lucas (28 n.o.) offered ample support as the visitors took just ten overs to wipe off the deficit. Earlier in the day, the home side toiled hard against restrictive opening spells from Lucas and Gavin Mills. Carlo Ierfone and Craig McDonnell (25) put on 41 for the first wicket before falling to the change bowlers. Dave Butterworth was the only other man to reach double figures as Kym Osseweyer 3/28, Brad Cross 2/24 and Ash Norton 2/20 shared the spoils.
