Hallora 10/121 def by Garfield-Tynong 10/292

Young Garfield-Tynong batsman Jake Van Den Berghe reached a massive milestone in is sides clash with Hallora, recording his first triple figure score.

Chasing a below par target, the Titans were well on top going into day two with Stuart Horsburgh (33) and Al Bliss (17 retired n.o.) setting a solid foundation. Coming in at 2/58 Van Den Berghe took some time to get settled before being joined by Bob Rogers with the score at 3/72.

With Rogers rotating the strike, Van Den Berghe began to find gaps in the field with a regular flow of boundaries lifting his confidence and bolstering his score. The pair continued to build a formidable partnership (172), taking their side past the target as something special loomed. Getting into the 90’s, Van Den Berghe seized his opportunity, pouncing on a loose delivery to strike his second maximum and bring up his maiden century before being dismissed shortly after for 105, which included 15 boundaries.

At the other end Rogers was simply sublime, quietly building his way to 75. Gary Donoghue was typically economical claiming 3/25 off seventeen overs with nine maidens. Brock Walsh worked hard with the new ball and finished with 3/46 off sixteen overs.

Earlier in the match 30’s to Rob Park and Daniel Sell along with 27 from Leigh Cook helped the Kangas get a score on the board. Darren Vandenberge was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 4/29 off fifteen overs. Craig Murray (2/47), Jason Ridler (2/15), and James Francs (2/11) all chimed in with two wickets apiece.

An incredible spell from Iona’s Chris Phelan helped set up a big win for the Swamp Tigers. Early wickets to Jarryd Bain (2/36) had the Crows looking shaky before Phelan came on and decimated the home sides line-up.

In just nine overs he delivered five maidens and snared 6/10, bundling the hosts out for 120. Harry Stephens was the pick of the batsmen with 33 as only two others managed double figures.

In reply, the visitors ended day one in a commanding position at 3/94. Scott Hoare contributed 44 while Jason Walden finished on 20 not out. Day two saw Walden and Brayden Hoskins put on 56 before a flurry of wickets saw them lose 4/16. Walden added to his overnight tally finishing just short of the half-century with 48. Bain added handy runs late with 38.

Angus Adamiak was the pick of the bowlers with 2/20 off five overs. Ryan Atherton (2/30) and Harry Stephens (2/36) each picked up a couple of wickets. Batting for a second time, Jet Pickering made the most of the extra time in the middle, top scoring with 61. Liam Quarrell added a handy 24 while Troy Hemming snaffled a couple of wickets.
