Warragul Bowling Club had a reasonable day in round 10 of WGBD pennant on Saturday with one team winning and two losing.

Division three flew the flag for the club with a solid 14 shot win over fellow finals aspirant Thorpdale.

Divisions one and three again fell to the curse of slow grass greens with bad losses against Trafalgar and Yarragon respective­ly. Warragul lost to Trafalgar 63/132

John Vickerman, Linda McCoy, Pat Hammond, Bill Clappers (s) lost to Darren Kane's team 14/31. Ken Landman, Brian Kennedy, Peter Gallasch, Terry Sullivan (s) lost to Ian Miles’ team 13/41.

David Alderman, Graeme Davis, Janette Gallasch, Andrew Glover (s) lost to Tim Fraser’s team 15/32. Des Stephens, Lindsay Soutter, Noel Rubenstein, Ken Scammell (s) lost to Tom Lodge’s team 21/28.

In round 11 of WGBD pennant next Saturday, Warragul division one is away to Traralgon, division three is home to Traralgon four and division four is home to Morwell three.

Warragul had a bad day in round nine of Tuesday pennant last week with both teams losing.

The Waterford Rise open pairs was contested last Monday. Teams came from Drouin, Heathmont, Mitcham, Vermont, Trafalgar, Moe, Berwick, Yamala Park and Warragul.

Winners of the day were Jack Pater and Colin Veenendaal (Heathmont/Mitcham) with three wins and 48 shots up. Runners up were Ken Scammell and Lindsay Soutter (Warragul) with three wins and 31 shots up.

Third placegette­rs were Peter Handley and Steve Jones (Yamala Park) with three wins and 20 shots up. Best game went to Ted Tratt and Alan Thompson (Berwick) with 15 shots up.

The Warragul Country Club/Warragul Toyota open triples was played last Thursday with teams from Narre Warren, Wonthaggi, Traralgon, Longwarry and Warragul.

Winners were David Smith, Graeme Davis and John Vickerman (Warragul) with three wins and 34 shots up. Runners up were Ian Kirkup, Ian Hilsley and Ian Belling (Traralgon/Warragul) with two wins and 20 shots up.

Third were Adam Proctor, Ian McCartney and Noel Rubenstein (Longwarry/Warragul) with two wins and 20 shots up, and best game went to Bill Clark, Russ Carrick and Jean Kydd with nine shots up.

Ladies draw pairs

The ladies drawn pairs event was played on Sunday with eight teams taking part.

After two games there were three two game winners and two of them were playing each other in the last game.

As it turned out those two teams had a draw, with Kerrie Currie and Marj Evison securing the runners up trophy from third placed Elsie Hefford and May Baldwin.

The other team going for three wins were Shirley Melsen and Chris Wilkins and they got their third win to come out ladies drawn pairs winners for 2020/2021.
