Ladder leaders defeat Longwarry

Longwarry Div 1 travelled to Newborough to take on the league leaders and won two of the four rinks but still came up 23 shots short.

Div 6 travelled to Yinnar to play Boolarra/Yinnar and had a 29 shot win to hold onto top position on the ladder.

Division 1 – Longwarry 4/86 Defeated by Newborough 16/109

Peter Lieshout, Simon Counsel, Jason Lieshout and Slim Eastwell (skip) defeated Nosha Micheal’s team 30/26.

Longwarry got off to a flyer and were 10 shots to nil after three ends. Newborough quickly regained seven shots but Longwarry again rallied to be seven shots ahead at the tea break. Newborough again fought back to get within two shots, but the Longwarry boys held strong for a four shot win in a good team effort.

Brian Hennessey, Daniel Cooper, Barry White and Russell White (Skip) defeated by Kevin Lovett’s team 11/38.

After five ends the scores were level at three all but the Longwarry team were totally out bowled by Newborough, only winning another five ends for the day to lose by 27 shots.

Glenn Pask, Grant Pask, Matt Eccles and Adam Proctor (Skip) defeated Allan Grubb’s team 29/24.

Longwarry got off to a great start and were 15/3 up by end eight and 20/7 up by end 13, but Newborough fought back strongly to win nine of the next 11 ends to be only one shot down going into the last end. Longwarry held their nerve to pick up four shots on the last end to win by five.

Elio Meggetto, John McCarthy, Ian Peterson and Ken Towt (skip) defeated by Paul Sherman’s team 16/21.

The Longwarry team were totally outplayed and were down 4/17 after 12 ends and looking at a big loss, but to their credit fought back and won nine of the last 13 ends to lose by only five shots.

Division 6 - Longwarry 10/65 defeated Boolarra/Yinnar 0/36

Reg Dunn, Brian Mason, Mark Serong and Ken White (skip) defeated Peter Gair’s team 33/18.

In a close game for the first half with several lead changes, Longwarry picked up some big numbers on the run home to record a 15 shot win.

Sharon Twite, Sean Garrity, Judy Eastwell and Fabio Mitchell (skip) defeated Pip Nikodemski’s team 32/18.

Longwarry lost the first two ends, but then won nine of the next 12 ends to take a 21/8 lead into the break. The home team tried hard but a 6 and a 4 on ends 17 and 18, set up Longwarry’s 14 shot win.
