Neerim fall in pennant

WGBD Saturday Division 5 Round 10

Neerim District Bowling Club (2) played away against Traralgon RSL (3) and yet again the heavy grass green took its toll with Neerim going down 40 to 86.

Russell Meehan (skip), Greg Bond, Cookie Halligan and Wes Ellis lost to Elaine Muir’s team 15 to 27. Neerim got off to a great start and lead six to one after four ends and led 10 to four on the 8th end.

RSL then started a comeback winning the next five ends to lead 13 to 10 on the 13th end. Neerim drew level on the 15th end only for RSL to win eight in a row to lead by 14 shots. Neerim won the last two ends going down by 12 shots.

Stephen Halligan (skip), Tom Goodwin, John Rochford and Des Pelly lost to David McClare’s team 36 to 11.

Neerim picked up a single on the first end only to lose the next eight ends to trail by 12 on the 9th end. Neerim won the next three ends.

The next four ends went to RSL with the score 21 to five in their favour. A four to Neerim on the 17th end was followed by six of the last eight ends to RSL including a five with the final margin 25 shots.

Jim Schroeder (skip), George Rymer, Gerald Winter and Neville Cousins lost to Lorraine Osler’s team 14 to 23.

Neerim were hanging in with the score three to five after six ends. Three of the next four ends went to RSL including a five with their lead out to 10.

Neerim picked up five singles over the next six ends to trail by six. RSL eased further ahead and had the lead out to 11 on the 21st end. Neerim trimmed two from that over the last four ends to go down by nine shots.

WGBD Saturday Division 2 Round 10 Neerim had a bye.

WGBD Tuesday Division 2 Round 9

Neerim District Bowling Club played at home against Traralgon (2) and won 64 to 43 with all rinks up.

Pat Fraser-Aurisch (skip), Di Tame, Richard Kerr and Gerry Engelstad defeated May Cross’ team 25 to 15. This was a tight game from the start with both teams managing to pick up ones and the occasional two. By the 10th end Neerim trailed five to seven but a four and a three put them in front by five.

Traralgon then had their four and a three to restore their lead. Scores were level at 15 all on the 17th end but Neerim came home in style with a five, three and two singles to win by 10 shots.

Cookie Halligan (skip), Thelma Schroeder, Gerald Winter and Jim Schroeder defeated Jan Moody’s team 21 to 11.

Neerim trailed four to one on the 5th end but eight over the next three ends gave them a handy lead of five.

Neerim continued to build on its lead and lead 17 to 6 on the 16th end. Traralgon cut the lead to six on the 19th end then Neerim finished off strongly to win by 10 shots.

Karren Sheers (skip), Kay Cousins, Stephen Halligan and John Rochford defeated Lynette Moffatt’s team 18 to 17.

Neerim got off to a good start and led nine to three on the 6th end. Traralgon responded winning six of the next seven ends to lead 13 to 10 on the 13th end.

The two teams then traded ends, but Neerim were closing in and levelled the scores on the penultimat­e end with the scores 17 all. Neerim maintained their momentum to win the last end and the game by one shot.
