Atwal stars in Drouin innings

- By Adam Johnson Division 4:

Drouin 8/194 (cc) vs Jindivick

A middle order revival has helped Drouin to a defendable total in their contest with Jindivick.

With the home side struggling at 5/57 Jimmy Atwal managed to get on top of the bowlers, turning things around with an unbeaten 72 runs.

He received great support from Jayden Bibby (27) as the pair added 61 in an important seventh wicket partnership. Earlier in the day Duane Lucas (30) kicked things off for the Hawks after early wickets to Andrew Pyle (4/47) gave the Jumping Jacks the upper hand. Ant Maguire chimed in with handy wickets to finish with 2/44.

Garfield-Tynong vs Western Park 10/128

A timely half-century to young Western Park paceman Josh Baker helped the Warriors to at least post a triple figure target after their lineup was decimated by Paresh Naik.

Conceding barely a run an over, Naik claimed his second five wicket haul of the season to finish with 6/27 off twenty-two overs. As the wickets tumbled Baker proved to be a thorn in the side for the Titans, reaching 61 not out by the close of play. Warriors skipper Marc Fleming was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 29.

Sudeep Nair provided good support with the ball claiming 3/28 off twelve overs.

Longwarry 10/99 vs Warragul 3/80

Warragul finished day one well on top in their contest with Longwarry.

Sent into the field by the home side the Gulls gathered momentum early as the Crows were reduced to 4/20. A handy 30-run partnership from Jesse La Frantz and Finton Fox steadied the ship, Fox top scoring with a mature 39. The visitors hit back with a flurry of lower order wickets to have the hosts all-out just before the tea break.

Matt Runnalls was the pick of the bowlers with 3/45 and was well supported by Anthony Wilkes who snared 2/28. Jeff McBride delivered a tidy spell claiming 2/14 off six overs. In reply, Amandeep Singh got his side off to an ideal start with a watchful 40 before late wickets helped put the brakes on.

Runnalls (11 n.o.) and Steven Fricke (2 n.o.) will take up the chase when play resumes.
