Eagles post big total

- By Joel Batson Division 3:

Ellinbank 8/194 v Garfield-Tynong

Ellinbank continued their superb form on the weekend, making a strong total at Tynong.

After being sent in once they lost the toss, the Eagles made the home side pay for that questionable decision, as their top three all made runs to set the platform for a late launch. Bryce Joyce (55) played his best senior innings, whilst Michael Masterson (34) and Sam Pratt (24) did their job against the new ball. Tom Robertson (30) cashed in against the old ball to push the score to an imposing 194, as Will Pickering (4-50) and Glen Johnston (240) battled hard for the Titans, who will need a strong batting performance to have any hope of claiming six points next week.

Neerim District 110 v Catani 1/15

Catani has taken the upper hand over Neerim District on the weekend.Losing the toss and bowling, the WDCA’s newest club showed why they wanted the pill in their hand, as Daniel Glover bowled all day unchanged in a stunning display of stamina. The former Hawk took 4-38, along with 14 suffocating maidens, whilst Danny Brewster (4-57) provided ample support from the other end as Neerim were all out for 110 off 59.3 overs, with no batsmen crossing 20. In reply, the Blues lost an early wicket, but recovered to be 1-15 at stumps, giving themselves every chance at six points next week.

Yarragon 63 v Western Park 1/83

Western Park gave themselves every chance at securing second spot next week, as they trounced an inept Yarragon in their clash at home. Losing the toss, the Warriors took advantage of being asked to bowl, as only Andy Trewern (22) provided resistance against their attack. Toby Bransgrove (3-17), Michael Rabl (3-0) and Jason Batson (2-28) ran absolutely riot, as the Panthers were bundled out for a miserable score of 63, giving themselves little to bowl at.

The struggling batting seeped into their bowling in response, as Matt Roberts (29), Toby Murfet (27*) and Fletcher Kennedy (20*) powered their side ahead, Western Park finishing the day ahead at 1-83, setting up an interesting dynamic next week.
