Maric blasts 51 not out

- By Zac Wright Under 16’s:

Drouin 8/149 vs Neerim/Jindivick

Drouin have posted a competitive total against their opponents in week one.

Jacob Konstanty’s 37 at the top set the tone early, only to have Ryan Maric (51*) come out and smash the bowlers to all parts of the ground in a really aggressive knock. Neerim/Jindivick did however clamp up with the ball after they saw the retirement of Maric and slowed down any batsmen who tried to get going in a real team effort to finish off strong.

Each bowler claimed a wicket which saw Drouin end with 8/149, setting the platform for a big ending in week two.

Yarragon/Hallora 7/56 vs Western Park

Western Park are on top after week one thanks to a huge effort with the ball.

After Yarragon/Hallora won the toss and elected to bat, they had good intent early with the two top order batsmen reaching double digits before Western Park put the brakes on any scoring opportunities.

Lane Ward the main contributor with the ball, finishing with six overs five maidens and 2/1 as he produced tidy figures to go along with the team’s total of 19 maidens for the morning.

Extras ended up being the top score for Yarragon/Hallora, which boosted their total as they finished with 7/56 off their 40 overs.

Yarragon White 5/55 def by Warragul 94 Warragul win in a dominant display away from home. Batting first, they were led by destructive opener Avneet Ghuman who made a run a ball 20* which set the platform for 3 other teammates to come out and make double digit scores to boost the team’s total. Jacob Egan the pick of the bowlers taking 2/8 off his 2 overs, seeing Warragul finish with 94. In reply with the bat, Yarragon simply couldn’t match what Warragul offered in the first innings, as Warragul produced 5 maidens out of the 20 overs bowled, Henry Allsop (16* off 37) tried hard in his team’s efforts, however Warragul’s bowling was overwhelming as Yarragon finish with 5/55.

Ellinbank 4/86 def Buln Buln Red 62

Ellinbank have come away victors against Buln Buln Red.

Batting first, Buln Buln struggled as none of the top six batsmen could put together a score above 10, as Nate Murphy bowled exceptionally with 2/4 and Tarrant Cannon with 2/11 as all the Eagles bowlers chipped in.

Artie Davidson batted well at the end with lots of pressure on, making 15* at the end of the innings to push Buln Buln to 62 all out.

In reply, Ellinbank put Buln Buln away in a hurry, with Tarrant Cannon (18 off 20) and Heath Jinks (18* off 12) did well to push their team to a winning position despite Riley Eastwell bowling well under pressure with 2/7. Ellinbank eventually winning, finishing 4/86.

Buln Buln Blue 4/76 def by Western Park Blue 2/103

Western Park have chased the score set by rivals Buln to claim victory. Buln set a total of 77 for victory after their 20 overs as Campbell Gibbons (20) and Dane Hammond (16*) set the tone for the side.

It wouldn’t be enough though as Joseph Sheehan (22 retired), Jack Walsh (20*) and Finn Sheehan (20*) led their side to a comfortable victory in the T20 clash.

Drouin 1/84 def Longwarry/Garfield 6/81

Despite a strong partnership from Clancy Pope and Seth Rumble, Longwarry/Garfield have been topped by Drouin.

Pope (23) and Rumble (21) turned on the runs late for their side, digging them out of a hole with a wonderful partnership to end the innings at 6/81, as Ibby Wahid looked to slow the game down finishing with 2/10.

In reply, Wahid did the job with the bat as well, finishing with 21 not out retired, well supported by Benjamin Smith (14*) as the Drouin side were able to chase the target just one wicket down, sneaking to 84 before the 20 overs were completed.

Hallora 5/95 def by Yarragon Black 2/99

A fantastic batting performance by Yarragon Black has seen them home against Hallora. After sending Hallora into bat, Max Williames made them pay for their decision, making a wonderful 22* retired. He was well supported by James Welford (13) as well, as Hallora finished with a solid total of 5/95.

Yarragon’s potent batting line-up weren’t going to be denied though, as Angus Kirkman (20*), Addison Cumming (21*) and Will Blackwood (12*) powered their side home, taking to the bowlers and using quick singles to reign in the total, finishing 2/99 inside 20 overs, Tyler Williames the pick of the bowlers for Hallora with 1/0 off two overs.
