Local riders enjoy national champs
The weekend saw AusCycling National Championships take place in Ballarat and the Warragul Cycling Club was well represented.
Postponed from the usual January date it was great to see the event take place after a challenging year that has seen most sports cancelled or postponed.
In addition to the age group and elite championships this year’s event also hosted a round of the Gran Fondo World Series with the top 20% of each age group qualifying for the Gran Fondo World Championships later in the year.
In the Grand Fondo, Jake Hallyburton competed in the 19-34 age group and finished in fourth place in the individual time trial and 13th place in the road race. Juliette Haddow in the 19-24 age group finished first in the time trial, but an unfortunate mechanical forced her out of the road race.
Jayman Prestidge in the 45-49 age group finished in 66th place in the road race and Aaron Nash in the 40-44 age group finished in 56th place in the road race.
In the Elite Championships youngster Ben Patrick enjoyed his first appearance at the event competing in all three disciplines, time trial, criterium and Road Race and gain valuable experience for his future racing.
Brenton Jones also competed in both the criterium and road race and finished a strong fifth in the criterium against a world class field.
Also playing an important part of the Championships was club member Jarryd Jones who was a part of the SRAM Neutral Service support ensuring that all competitors were mechanically supported during competition.
Congratulations to all club members for their outstanding results and achievements.
