Do the right thing

-

Mark McGowan, the West Australian Premier, has just announced an end to native logging in his state by 2024.

He ignored the CFMEU and those profiting from the industry, announcing that native logging is environmentally unsustainable, and that protection of native forests is critical in the fight against climate change.

He said that native forests are "a gift to our children, our grandchildren and their grandchildren." Dan Andrews previously announced an end to native logging in Victoria by 2030, but numerous experts believe it needs to end now because the forests have shrunk markedly due to over-logging and bushfire.

With no effective Opposition in this state, Dan is in a similar position to WA's Mark McGowan. He now has enough political acumen to stare down the CFMEU and do what is clearly the right thing.

Anyone enlisted by these agencies to assist them with government hacking is instantly protected from civil liability. Anybody who refuses to assist them or refuses to supply them with the information asked of them can face up to 10 years in prison.

What happened to the right to not incriminate ourselves?
