Healthcare Group welcomes back volunteers

-

Volunteers’ Week celebrates our wonderful volunteers at West Gippsland Healthcare Group (WGHG).

This years theme, ‘Better Together’, is a chance to thank the volunteers rejoining us post-pandemic.

We are thrilled to be welcoming back the incredible and dedicated people who support the health and wellbeing of our community.

Volunteers and the pandemic

Like everyone everywhere, the past two years have been full of challenges.

Many of our volunteer programs, such as palliative care, aged care and visitor programs were stopped to protect staff, volunteers and those we care for.

This significantly impacted staff workloads.

But we also missed the support community we shared and the smiles of our 150-member strong volunteer-army.

Luckily, some of our volunteers could soldier on throughout.

Our thanks and gratitude to the many that adapted to COVID protocols and new technology.

The Trafalgar and Drouin Opportunity Shops continued operations.

The medical equipment funded by income generated from these volunteers directly improves the quality and care of our patients and their families.

New video conferencing facilities means the Consumer Representative group’s important work continues.

Their advocacy brings patient, carer and community perspectives to WGHG planning and decisions.

Get involved!

For everyone we will be seeing for the first time in years, we can’t wait!

If you’ve been missing that community connection in the long lockdown years - this is your opportunity to get involved.

Join a great bunch of people and make a real-life difference to someone’s day.

There’s lots of programs to choose from.

You can join aged, palliative or rehabilitation care programs, the consumer representatives, volunteer at an op shop or be part of the administrative or ward teams.
