Crunch time for potato festival

A bid to save the Thorpdale Potato Festival from folding is almost across the line. But more people power is needed to form a committee.

A crisis meeting last week saw a number of key committee positions filled but another meeting will be held next week to elect a president and secretary.

The future of the town's popular bi-annual festival continues to hang on the commitment of new volunteers to get involved and save the festival.

Last week's meeting resulted in an interim president and secretary being appointed, as well as a new treasurer.

Another meeting, to finalise a new committee and to begin planning the 2023 event will be held at Traveller's Rest upstairs function room on June 22 at 7.00pm.

The interim president Ivor Awty and interim secretary Tash Hammond were appointed until next week's meeting where it will be decided whether there is enough people power to elect a full committee and resource the event.

Liz Le Clercq has committed to treasurer and Carmelina Walshe has committed to co-ordinating the market stalls.

Community members interested in joining the committee or contributing to the festival are encouraged to attend the meeting.

The festival has contributed thousands of dollars to local community groups and organisations in recent years, providing a valuable source of fundraising for local projects.

If held, next year's event will be the town's 29th Potato Festival.
