Bright, bold art on show

-

A collection of bright, bold sci-fi fantasy portraits is set to open at the Red Tree Gallery in Jindivick this weekend.

Set to delight both young and old alike, these family-friendly works are created by well-known local art teacher and artist Jo Draisma.

Jo will be presenting an ensemble of entirely unique characters in colourful costumes and settings in this exhibition. The works, in oil and acrylic paint, meander across a variety of styles: from realistic, to surrealistic, and even slightly abstracted.

This highly engaging body of work will open to the public on Saturday and is open daily from 10am to 4pm until Monday, August 22. Entry is free.

Jo will offer a “meet the artist” opportunity at the gallery each Saturday and Sunday from 12noon to 4pm during the exhibition, with the official opening on Sunday from 2pm to 4pm. All are invited to attend.

Jo grew up in Warragul and came back to live and raise a family after studying teaching.

Her first solo exhibition was at Melbourne University in 1996. Since then, she has exhibited in Southbank and Crown Casino.

Jo has shown works at a number of local group exhibitions and art shows, and has several public outdoor works around Warragul. Throughout this time, Jo has also taught art at local primary schools and has devoted students who attend weekly private art lessons.

Red Tree Gallery is located at 420 Main Jindivick Rd, Jindivick. It is on the grounds of Laurie Collins’ sculpture garden, with plenty of room for the kids to run and play.
