St John of God

-

As a father of three, Dr Saj Rathnayake understands how important it is for families to deliver their babies with the help of trusted obstetricians and at a hospital that upholds the highest standards of care.

With more than a decade of obstetric experience under his belt, Dr Saj recently made the decision to move his Geelong practice to the Berwick area. According to Dr Saj a motivating factor was the opportunity to work out of St John of God Berwick Hospital (SJGBH).

What attracted you to SJGBH?

What I love most about working at SJGBH is the teamwork among the nursing, allied health and medical workforce and the way the whole team comes together to support the wellbeing of families having babies there.

Aside from what you expect to experience in a private hospital, such as choosing your own obstetrician, partner boarding, quality food, longer hospital stays etc., SJGBH has a Special Care Nursery for babies that need that little extra care and parents also get access to perinatal mental health support which is vital in these stressful times. I see the difference this nurturing environment makes to families in my care. What would you like people to know about you?

I’d like my patients to know that my care extends far beyond my medical qualifications.

I treat my patients with warmth, integrity and open communication and pride myself on educating parents so they are equipped to make well-informed decisions.

As a father to three girls, I have a particular interest in women’s health and understand that pregnancy can be an exciting, yet anxious time in one’s life.

It’s my aim to support and empower patients through this journey.

I’m fortunate to have found a hospital that also aligns with my care philosophy.
