West Gippsland,celebrate!

A brand - new hospital is coming our way

- Dan Weeks Chief Executive Officer

Both of the major political parties have committed to a new, state of the art health service if they win Government.

Once the election is out of the way, we will work with the new Government to finalise contracts in 2023 ready for construction to commence in 2024. If all goes to plan, it should be completed in 2028, which isn’t that far away.

The plans will allow for growth in the short and longer term so the healthcare needs for future generations will be secure.

We already own the land, a 23.6 hectare site at Lardners Track in Drouin East.

Ideally positioned between Warragul and Drouin, the new hospital will be much larger, creating more jobs for our community.

It will provide a better working environment for our staff, who have watched with envy new hospitals being built around us. A new hospital will help us attract more staff. It will also provide a better environment for our patients, residents and consumers.

The community has been so supportive as we have worked with Government for many years to get to this point, and I know you are just as excited as we are. It has been a long journey and there are many people to thank.

We have enjoyed the support and advocacy of many groups, including Baw Baw Shire Council and the Committee for Gippsland. The Gippsland media, with particular mention of the Warragul and Drouin Gazette have provided terrific coverage of our efforts.

Our local members of parliament, including Harriet Shing and the retiring Gary Blackwood, have advocated strongly and worked tirelessly for the community.

The local community has also provided very vocal support, for which we are most grateful.

While we know our current hospital holds a special place in the hearts of many, the new hospital will be just as special. We recognise our future lies in the new hospital, with more capacity to manage our growing population.

We look forward to keeping you posted as we turn this bi-partisan commitment into a new hospital.
