Daniher’s Drive event in Warragul

-

The famous ‘Daniher’s Drive’ charity event will set off on Thursday and will include an overnight stay in Warragul on Saturday night, with a fundraising event at Lardner Park.

The event, in which more than 80 cars and 300 people will participate, is an annual road trip through regional Victoria to raise funds and awareness to fight motor neurone disease, otherwise known as MND. It first began through the efforts of

FightMND, an organisation fronted by former AFL player and coach Neale Daniher most famous for creating the now infamous ‘Big Freeze’ event in the AFL.

Having been postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID, Daniher’s Drive will set off from the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday and travelling to support regions most impacted by the devastating bushfires of early 2020.

The journey includes stops at Myrtleford, Lakes Entrance and Metung, with the final resting point of its three-day journey being at Lardner Park in Warragul on Saturday night (October 15).

A final brunch will be held at Lardner Park with tally announcements on Sunday morning.

The Drive’s overnight stay will bring with it a sense of joy with the Daniher’s Drive Halloween Party, a ticketed costume night full of fun all are welcome to participate in.

The event hopes to raise more than $2.5 million for FightMND. It’s a steep goal, but given Daniher’s Drive has raised more than $10 million in the past hopes are certainly high.

Neale Daniher thanked all of the Drive’s sponsors, while expressing how excited he was the event was able to get underway again.

“After two years of false starts, my family and I can’t wait to get back on the road again for what promises to be an unforgettable Drive - spreading awareness and raising funds while having plenty of fun along the way,” he said.

To support the Drive, locals are encouraged to purchase a ticket to the Halloween Party or an entry into the Daniher’s Drive Jayco raffle, where they could win a Jayco Starcraft Bushpack Caravan valued at $61,990. Donations will also be accepted at any Chemist Warehouse in-store from October 13 to November 30.
