Catani keeps winning

- By Joel Batson

Division three Catani v Longwarry

Catani kept their division three unbeaten streak intact, as they squeaked home against Longwarry. Bowling first, Bailey Sporish (4-9) did the damage with a stunning spell and was ably supported by Joe Dalgleish (2-18) as the Crows were dismissed for just 100.

In reply, the Cats would have been hoping for an easy six points, however, Matt Jones (2-16) and Rob Cowan (2-21) reduced their more-fancied opponents to 6-65 as the match came down to the wire.

Heroes were needed for the home side - and they got them, as Dalgleish (32*) and Daniel Glover (16*) saw their side home with relative ease in the end.

Drouin v Western Park

A scintillating innings from skipper Alex Gavin has seen Western Park easily account for rivals Drouin on the weekend.

Batting first, the Warriors made use of a crisp Bellbird Park pitch as Gavin (80) was at his explosive best. He and James Allen (28) set up a sensational platform, as the visitors reached 9-162 off a reduced 36 overs, with Mitch Goodwin (3-46), Cam Caddy (2-19) and Sam Wyatt (2-30) the pick of the bowlers for the Hawks.

In reply, the home side never gave themselves a chance as a collapse of 6-19 through the middle of the innings doomed them. Jason Batson (3-21) blew off the front pad of Wyatt (21) to seal their fate, while Josh Baker (2-17) also chipped in.

A late flurry gave Drouin hope, but they were no match, the home side all out for 100 in just 24 overs as the Parkers savoured six points.

Iona v Neerim District

A monstrous batting performance catapulted Iona to an enormous victory over Neerim District on the weekend.

Batting first, a freakishly brisk innings from Brad Remy (71) set the tone, as he bashed five maximums in an early onslaught. Wesley Wright (55) continued the onslaught through the middle of the innings, as Mick Neilson (49*) and Mick Taylor (40) both chipped in with contributions to the Swamp Tigers enormous total of 5-260.

Knowing they were no chance of chasing the target, the visitors opted for batting practice as they crawled through the 40 overs to make 7-106. Travis McCann (27) and Michael Saunders (25*) took positives out of the day, as Travis Kitchin (2-15) and Sam Accardi (2-20) added some sugar to their wicket tallies for the season.

Warragul v Yarragon

Warragul and Yarragon drew without playing due to poor weather.
