Solid week for Drouin croquet

Association croquet

Sale was the venue for Drouin's match last Thursday playing against the pairing of Len Clissold (hcp 11) and Barbara Castles playing off handicap 10.

Both Sale players were in top form and Drouin's Allan and Jenny Leesing found the going tough, both losing their singles games.

Allan (hcp 8) lost 13-23 to Barbara Castles and Jenny (hcp 11) lost 10-26 to Len Clissold.

The Sale pair also took the doubles game 2613.

Final score: Sale 3 games 75 hoops def. Drouin 0 games 36 hoops.

Drouin is again away on Thursday to Traralgon 2.

Golf croquet

Drouin Gold travelled to Phillip Island for round seven of the Gippsland Croquet Pennant draw.

The Drouin team adjusted quite well to Phillip Island's quicker lawns and after a dour battle amazingly the first four games of the singles ended in a 7/6 result, with Gold winning three out of four.

Drouin's Heather Bullen lost 6/7 to Denise Bray, Cris Musgrove (D) def. Lilly Eichstadt 7/6, Helen Bolton (D) def. Judy Nicoll 7/6 and Janette Fisher (D) def. Lillian Wagstaff 7/6.

Another three games were won by Drouin Gold in the second singles round:

H. Bolton (D) def. L. Wagstaff 7/4, Janette Fisher lost 1/7 to Judy Nicoll, H. Bullen (D) def. L. Eichstadt 7/4 and C. Musgrove def. Denise Bray 7/5, giving Drouin a lead of 6 games to Phillip Island 2 games.

Games ended at three each after the doubles rounds.

Drouin Green again played at home hosting Wonthaggi 2.

A satisfying over all win for Drouin Green by two games and seven hoops.

Final result: Drouin 8 games 84 hoops defeated Wonthaggi 2, 6 games-77 hoops.

Drouin Green is away to Morwell today and Drouin Gold is at home to Warragul.

Nannette Fry and Heather Bullen, representing the Drouin Club, travelled back to Phillip Island last Friday to attend the opening of Phillip Island's new clubrooms.

Members are reminded that club championships will be held the weekend of 12-13 November.
