Funding for local events
Sponsorships totalling more than $45,700 have been awarded to a number of community groups in Baw Baw Shire to help them deliver events during the next year.
A further $3500 will support two individuals and two groups as ambassadors for the shire at sporting events within Gippsland, the state and overseas.
Community event recipients in round one are:

Drouin Combined Churches committee for carols by candelight
Ghostlight Theatre to support the performance of “Into the Woods” at the West Gippsland Arts Centre
Latrobe Valley Model Railway Association for an exhibition in Warragul
Neerim District Pony Club family friendly event including an outdoor movie screening of “The Man From Snowy River”
Warragul Camera Club’s 50th anniversary of its National Photographic Competition and Exhibition.
The ambassador sponsorship recipients are:Brett Osler to represent Australia in the AFL Europe Cup 2023, a men and women’s match between France and Australia for the Anzac Cup to honour Australians that fought in the second Battle of Bretonneux in World War 1. Players are chosen based on their personal or family connections to the armed forces.
Damien Smith who recently competed in the World Iron Man Championships in Hawaii.
Warragul Little Athletics to compete at the Gippsland regional relays.
Warragul Amateur Swimming Club members who recently travelled to Darwin for national competitions.
Mayor Michael Leaney said the sponsorships helped deliver events and opportunities that benefit the wider community and contribute to making Baw Baw shire a vibrant and exciting place.
Applications for the second round of sponsorships will open from March 6 to April 3 next year.
