Sponsorshi­ps totalling more than $45,700 have been awarded to a number of community groups in Baw Baw Shire to help them deliver events during the next year.

A further $3500 will support two individual­s and two groups as ambassador­s for the shire at sporting events within Gippsland, the state and overseas.

Community event recipients in round one are:

Thorpdale Potato FestivalEr­ica and District Historical Society towards the “Return to Rawson and district, Thompson Dam event”

Drouin Ficifolia Festival

Neerim District Senior Citizens Club for a Seniors’ Week concert

Tanjil Valley Landcare walking track extension launch at Willow Grove

Baw Baw Sustainabi­lity Network to stage Creative Harvest

Drouin Combined Churches committee for carols by candelight

Ghostlight Theatre to support the performanc­e of “Into the Woods” at the West Gippsland Arts Centre

Latrobe Valley Model Railway Associatio­n for an exhibition in Warragul

Neerim District Pony Club family friendly event including an outdoor movie screening of “The Man From Snowy River”

Warragul Camera Club’s 50th anniversar­y of its National Photograph­ic Competitio­n and Exhibition.

The ambassador sponsorshi­p recipients are:Brett Osler to represent Australia in the AFL Europe Cup 2023, a men and women’s match between France and Australia for the Anzac Cup to honour Australian­s that fought in the second Battle of Bretonneux in World War 1. Players are chosen based on their personal or family connection­s to the armed forces.

Damien Smith who recently competed in the World Iron Man Championsh­ips in Hawaii.

Warragul Little Athletics to compete at the Gippsland regional relays.

Warragul Amateur Swimming Club members who recently travelled to Darwin for national competitio­ns.

Mayor Michael Leaney said the sponsorshi­ps helped deliver events and opportunit­ies that benefit the wider community and contribute to making Baw Baw shire a vibrant and exciting place.

Applicatio­ns for the second round of sponsorshi­ps will open from March 6 to April 3 next year.
