Warragul VIEW Club News

-

September was Warragul VIEW Club’s 34th birthday and a great time was had by all. The theme was springtime and we hosted members from clubs in our zone.

It was great to catch up with so many ladies resplendent in floral outfits and accessories. The guest speaker was a very talented artist, Maureen Quigley who brought along beautiful examples of her creative work.

The monster raffle was a huge success and thanks go to Marge Ludecke for sourcing the prizes and to members who so kindly donated too. Local businesses also were very generous.

We are now closer to meeting our commitment to our 10 scholarship students

Anti-Poverty Week runs from October 16 to 22 and VIEW Clubs play an important role in conjunction with The Smith Family. With the rising cost of living, families are being forced to make difficult decisions about where they spend their dollars each week, leaving children at risk of missing out on basic school items such as uniforms, books and learning devices.

Children are still dealing with the impacts of COVID and catching up on missed learning, the ripple effect of these added financial pressures at home could set them back.

VIEW Clubs are a national women’s organisation with over 14,000 members in 300 communities and currently sponsor 1550 students, on The Smith Family’s Learning for Life program.

VIEW stands for the Voice Interests and Education of Women and we exclusively support disadvantaged students to improve their life outcomes. VIEW Clubs collectively raised $1.1 million last year and volunteered over 70,000 hours of time.

Warragul VIEW Club supports 10 students by fundraising and with the ongoing support and generosity of our members. Guests are always welcome to join club members for a meal. To find out more contact president Susan on 0407 231292.

Coming up in October – on Saturday 22nd we will be holding our Declutter Sale. This is a major fundraiser so please check out those cupboards ladies and see what you can donate for this good cause. Our students will appreciate you being ruthless.

Please bring along your donations to the Senior Citizens Hall in Warragul between 2pm to 4pm on Friday, October 21 - all items should be clearly priced and if not sold, collected after the sale. We would also love to see you at the sale so you can restock those empty cupboards and wardrobes with different items.

If you have any questions or need help to get donations to the hall contact a committee member.

The next meeting will be at Black Tie on October 26, when Kerryn Carpenter from Vintage Vibes will be the guest speaker and we resume our evening time of 6pm for 6.30pm Dinner bookings and apologies to Linda on 0410 517058.

Table Tennis

Drouin KeenAgers enjoyed a wonderful weekend participating in the Mornington KeenAgers’ Table Tennis Tournament last weekend. Due to Covid, it has been three years since the last tournament and all were looking forward to meeting old friends again.

At KeenAgers’ Tournaments, all games played are doubles.

A large group of 22 Drouin members battled for the trophies with around 100 competitors involved.

Beautiful trophies for first place were won by Michael and Chris in the men’s division two, while Michael and Lois won the mixed doubles division two. Congratulations to Michael

on his double trophy win.

Judy and Peachy played brilliantly to make it to the finals of the women’s doubles division two, but were flagging towards the end.

They were runners-up and received a well deserved medal.

It was a long tiring day with a series of Round Robin play-offs in all sections. With play starting at 9am and finals being played at 5pm, it was truly survival of the fittest.

All players are to be congratulated on their efforts both in playing and in umpiring matches.

The tournament was followed by a wonderful evening of delicious dinner, music, dancing, singing and jokes. As well as winning six trophies, Drouin member, Tim won first prize in the raffle, an electric mower. So, a most successful weekend for all.

KeenAgers play on Mondays and Thursdays at Bellbird Park, 270 Settlement Rd Drouin, from 8.30am to 11.30am.

Newcomers are very welcome. Equipment can be supplied. For more information contact Lois on 0400 185 336
