Longwarry convincing

Longwarry’s division two hosted Newborough in the season opener and had a convincing 27-shot win.

Division 5 hosted Neerim District and went down by 24 shots as the new teams got to know each other.

The club welcomed all the new bowlers and look forward to an enjoyable season.

Division two: Longwarry defeated Newborough (2) 91/64

Ellio Megetto, Barrie White, John Majkut and Russell White (skip) defeated Ed Wheelan’s team 22/11.

In a very even start to the game, scores were even after six ends. Longwarry, after picking up a five on end 10 and winning six of the last eight ends, took control of the game to record a convincing 11-shot win.

Jasmine O’Shea, Simon Counsel, Glenn Pask and Adam Proctor (skip) drew Graham Cock’s team 21/21.

Longwarry welcomed Jasmine into the team for her first game of pennant and she played like a seasoned profession­al. The game was a ding-dong battle all day, with several lead changes. Longwarry picked up one on the last end to finish with a fitting draw.

John McCarthy, Rob Proctor, Colin Finger and Grant Pask (skip) defeated Peter Policha’s team 26/14.

This rink was also close at five-all after five ends. When Longwarry picked up a five on end six, they took control of the game. They played well as a team to score a 12-shot win.

Mark Serong, Jason Lieshout, Ian Peterson and Trevor Kitchin (sklp) defeated Bob Cook’s team 22/18.

The Newborough team controlled much of the first half of the game, winning nine of the first 13 ends. However, once the Longwarry boys got their eye in, they won six of the last eight ends. They recorded a great comeback four-shot win with new skip Trev.

Division five: Longwarry (2) lost to Neerim District (2) 52/76

Robert Davis, Russell Hall, John O’Shea and Paul Buckner (skip) lost to Greg Bond’s team 20/24.

In a tight contest early, Neerim got on top midway through the game to lead by 10 shots with three ends to go. To Longwarry’s credit, they picked up six shots on the last three ends to just go down by four.

Lorna Sheedy, Heidi Bosch, Craig Cousin and Sharon Twite (skip) lost to John Rochford’s team 16/28.

The Longwarry team were competitiv­e all day but lost a couple of big numbers to eventually lose by 12 shots.

Colleen Butterwort­h, Lorraine Bluck, Debbie Parker and Gerry Mitchell (skip) lost to Jim Schroeder’s team 16/24.

This Longwarry rink was also competitiv­e all day, winning 10 of the 21 ends. However, they also dropped a couple of big numbers to eventually lose by eight shots.
