Cummings names his “best placed” horse for the weekend

- By Hugh Fitzpatrick

Superstar trainer James Cummings has rated his best chance for the weekend.

Cummings, who seems to be winning just about every feature this Spring Carnival, has another huge team set out for both Randwick and Caulfield’s meetings.

As of Thursday morning, the Godolphin stable have 11 runners accepted for the weekend and it’s star galloper Cascadian that Cummings says is his “best placed” horse on Saturday.

“It’s a nice race, he’s my best placed horse of the weekend,” Cummings told SEN Track’s Giddy Up with Gareth Hall.

“He just has not taken a backwards step since the Hill Stakes which he just careered away with.

“Things are looking good for

Cascadian, the main challenge is this long leader looks like it’ll get its own way in front.

“The horse is going really nicely and he’s really trying to build up towards his grand final which is the Champions Mile on the final day of the Flemington carnival and this is going to be a beautiful interim run between the Hill Stakes and then.

“It’ll be a sweet race to take home, it’s weight-for-age, back to nine furlongs and he’s looking like he’s got the eye of the tiger about him at the moment.

“I’d say he’s going to set out after a pretty good horse in that long leader and hopefully he can mow it down but it’s going to take a good effort from Cascadian to be catching Surf Dancer and hopefully he does and he turns up with two wins under his belt from his last two starts when he gets to Flemington for his final day.”

Cascadian will be ridden by James McDonald from barrier three on Saturday.

He’s currently rated a $1.70 with Sportsbet.
