Drouin goes down in thriller

Associatio­n:

The venue for Drouin's associatio­n croquet team last Thursday, in round eight of the Gippsland pennant competitio­n was Traralgon. Playing against Traralgon's second team Allan and Jenny Leesing found the going tough.

In the singles games Margaret Fraser def. Allan Leesing 26-11, with Jenny Leesing also going down 11-26 to Joy Davis.

Combining very well in the doubles game, Traralgon's Fraser/Davis pegged out at 26 hoops to Drouin's 8 hoops.

The final result: Drouin 0 games 30 hoops were defeated by Traralgon 2, 3 games 78 hoops.

Golf:

Drouin Gold

Round eight of the Gippsland GC pennant draw saw Drouin Gold at home to top of the ladder Warragul, with the final result a nail biter.

Gold acquitted themselves very well throughout the match, taking advantage of a considerab­le number of extra shots received in the doubles games.

Warragul had a lead of 5 games to 3 after completion of the singles rounds, but Drouin were not dishearten­ed and bravely fought back, taking the doubles 4 games to 2.

There was a tense atmosphere in the Drouin Club room when the day's final result was read out as follows:

Drouin Gold plays Drouin Green today while Warragul is away to Wonthaggi 1.

The overall result for Green was not quite as close, playing away to Morwell.
