Successful day for Longwarry

Longwarry Bowls Club completed a successful day on Saturday, with division two travelling to Drouin to score a convincing 40-shot win.

Division five had its first win of the season, travelling to Traralgon and defeating Traralgon RSL by 12 shots.

Division two: Longwarry defeated Drouin 92/52

Hank Metselaar, Barrie White, John Majkut and Russell White (skip) defeated David Tayles’ team 25/5.

Longwarry welcomed back the “x-factor” Hank and he did not disappoint. Longwarry totally controlled this rink all day playing great team bowls, only allowing Drouin five singles to record a 20-shot win.

John McCarthy, Mark Serong, Glenn Pask and Adam Proctor (skip) defeated Arthur Moore’s team 19/12.

The Longwarry team got the upper hand early, getting out to a seven-shot lead by end nine.

That was the final margin after a tight contest for the remainder of the game.

Kenneth Towt, Rob Proctor, Colin Finger and Grant Pask (skip) defeated Brian Thorpe’s team 28/20.

The Drouin team got off to a flyer, picking up a five and a six in the first five ends to be up 13/5. Longwarry settled and got back to 13-all after nine ends. Drouin again got out to a fiveshot lead, but Longwarry were too strong in the run home. They won six of the last eight ends to win a great game by eight shots.

Jason Lieshout, Peter Lieshout, Ian Peterson and Trevor Kitchen (sklp) defeated Col Jeffery’s team 20/15.

Longwarry settled the best and, by end 13, had a five-shot lead. Drouin pegged back the lead in the next two ends to level the scores. Longwarry won the next four ends to win a close tussle by five shots.

Division five: Longwarry (2) defeated Traralgon RSL (3) 64/52

Heidi Bosch, Lorraine Bluck, John O’Shea and Paul Buckner (skip) lost to Margaret Morley’s team 14/18.

In a great battle all day, the Longwarry team won 11 of the 21 ends. However, RSL won the bigger numbers when it counted, getting over the line by four shots.

Mark Light, Sharon Twite, Craig Cousin and Ken White (skip) defeated Frankie Metcalf’s team 33/13.

The newly formed “Dream Team” took control of the match early, and had a 10-shot lead by end 13. RSL came back to get within seven shots, but Longwarry had a strong last four ends. They picked up 13 shots to record a convincing 20-shot win.

Bob Davis, Russell Hall, Debbie Parker and Gerry Mitchell (skip) lost to John Farquhar’s team 17/21.

This match was also a close encounter all day, with the “Hogg” being back in some vintage form. The team couldn’t quite get over the line, just going down by four shots.
