Four wins for Neerim District

Neerim District celebrated round two with four wins from four over midweek and Saturday pennant.

The wins came despite missing four players on the Saturday.

Saturday

Division two: Neerim District defeated Thorpdale 73/58

Peter Throup (skip), Pat Fraser-Aurisch, George Rymer and Richard Kerr lost to Dwayne Gunn’s team 18/21.

Neerim got a good start and led 8/1 on the fifth end. Thorpdale fought back and levelled at 10-all on the 10th end. Neerim responded to lead by five on the 16th, but Thorpdale came again and went on to win by three shots.

Ray Watts (skip),Tony Thornton, Ray Throup and Chris Hogan defeated Danny Vanzuylen’s team 19/12.

Scores were level at six-all on the eighth end before Neerim kicked away to lead by six on the 12th end. From then, scoring was tight. Neerim ran out seven-shot winners.

Shane Hogan (skip), Karren Sheers, Jim Fallon and Mick Talbot defeated Ben Powell’s team 17/10.

In a low scoring game made up largely of singles, Neerim were generally in favour and eased ahead. A three to Neerim on the ninth was the biggest end of the game. Thorpdale picked up three shots in the last two ends, but went down by seven shots.

Neil Adams (skip), Angus McGillivra­y, Rob Cook and Colin McKay defeated Brendan Jennings’ team 19/15.

Neerim jumped away to lead 9/0 after four ends. Thorpdale got on the board and started to narrow the margin, but Neerim still held an eight-shot lead on the 10th end. Thorpdale kept coming and trailed by just two late. However, Neerim held on with a two to win by four shots.

Division five: Neerim District (2) defeated Trafalgar (3) 80/52

Jim Schroeder (skip), Kay Cousins, Graeme Wingrove and Des Pelly lost to Paul Gridley’s team 15/21.

Scoring was tight early with the lead alternatin­g. A four on the 10th end to Trafalgar gave them a five-shot break, but Neerim levelled at 14-all on the 17th. Neerim led briefly but Trafalgar finished strongly with a four on the last end for a six-shot win.

Mal Collins (skip), Roger Till, Fish Halligan and Bron Throup defeated Russell Lavell’s team 28/19.

Trafalgar led 6/1 on the third end before Neerim scored 10 over the next three ends. Neerim continued to ease away to lead by nine on the 18th end. A five to Trafalgar made things interestin­g, only for Neerim to immediatel­y respond with a six to finish with a nine-shot win.

John Rochford (skip), Russell Meehan, Gerry Engelstad and Neville Cousins defeated Shirley Melsen’s team 37/12.

Neerim dropped a single on the first end and then blasted away with big numbers. A five on the eighth end had the score at 21/2. Trafalgar scored their own five a few ends later but Neerim held them to singles on the way to a 25-shot win.

Division six: Neerim District (3) defeated Drouin (4) 42/35

Cookie Halligan (skip), Thelma Schroeder and Peter Nolan, playing one bowler short, defeated Merv Appleyard’s team 21/17.

Neerim started well and led 7/1 on the fifth end. Drouin pegged back the margin to be 11all on the 12th and lead by five on the 16th. Neerim conceded only two singles, while picking up 10 shots of their own, to win by three.

Julie Adams (skip), Gerald Winter, Terry Giffin and Tom Goodwin defeated Lloyd Smith’s team 21/18.

Neerim eased away to a seven-shot lead by the 10th end. Drouin started a comeback, trailing by just one on the 16th, but Neerim steadied to win by four shots.

Midweek

Division two: Neerim District defeated Newborough (3) 62/57

Pat Fraser-Aurisch (skip), Jim Schroeder, Neville Cousins and Bronwyn Throup lost to Joy Cadby’s team 18/26.

It was an even tussle early, with Neerim leading 8/7 on the seventh end. Newborough piled on the scores to lead 18/9 on the 13th end. They extended the lead to 15 on the 17th with a five. Neerim managed to pick up seven shots but went down by eight.

Kay Cousins (skip), Cookie Halligan, Gerry Engelstad and Richard Kerr defeated Dianne Bertoll’s team 27/9.

After a steady start, Neerim scored a four and three to be 11/2 on the eighth end. Neerim continued to dominate, leading by 15 on the 15th. Another four gave an 18-shot win.

Karren Sheers (skip), Fish Halligan, Thelma Schroeder and Joe Marino lost to Natalie Lambos’ team 17/22.

Scoring was low early, tied three-all on the third end. Newborough had a run of five ends to lead by 10 on the 10th. Neerim staged a comeback and trailed by just one on the penultimat­e end, having picked up a four and five. However, Newborough picked up a four to run out five-shot winners.
