Win for Drouin in croquet

Long awaited sunny conditions greeted Thursday pennant players when Drouin played Leongatha in round nine of the GCA AC pennant competitio­n.

Drouin players Jenny Leesing and Nannette Fry were delighted to get the points at day’s end against Leongatha’s Garry Shandley and Ria Keddie.

Although down in total hoops by 10, the Drouin players won two of the three games.

In the singles games, Jenny Leesing (D) lost 11/26 to Garry Shandley (L), Nannette Fry (D) defeated Ria Keddie (L) 16/12.

The doubles was closely contested, with Drouin getting over the line 16/15.

Final result: Drouin 2 games 43 hoops defeated Leongatha 1 game 53 hoops.

In round 10, Drouin will play Traralgon 1. Golf:

Drouin’s two teams played against one another in round nine of Gippsland GC Pennant.

Green set themselves up for the match against Gold, losing just two games from four played in each of the level singles rounds.

Singles results with Green named first:

Bob Quayle (8) defeated Jenny Leesing (10) 7/3 and Cris Musgrove (11) 7/4; Nannette Fry (10) defeated Cris Musgrove 7/6 and Jenny Leesing 7/3; Ray Biffin (10) defeated Helen Bolton 7/4 and Janette Fisher 7/4; and Helen Biffin lost 4/7 to Janette Fisher and 4/7 to Helen Bolton.

Doubles one: Quayle/Fry lost 6/7 to Leesing/ Musgrove, Biffin/Biffin lost 3/7 to Bolton/Fisher.

Doubles two: Quayle/R. Biffin defeated Leesing/Bolton 7/4 and Fry/H. Biffin lost 5/7 to Musgrove/Fisher.

Doubles three: Quayle/H. Biffin defeated Musgrove/Bolton 7/1 and Fry/R. Biffin defeated Leesing/Fisher 7/5.

Final result: Drouin Green 9 games 85 hoops defeated Drouin Gold 5 games 69 hoops.

Bob Quayle was in good form, reducing his handicap to seven on the day.

Green plays away to Leongatha in round 10 today (Tuesday) and Gold hosts Wonthaggi 1.
