Baw Baw Singers

-

Baw Baw Singers “Pleasant Sunday Afternoon” performance in the Drouin Anglican Church was a resounding success.

President Fred Allen welcomed everyone and thanked Rector Bruce Charles for the opportunity for the choir to hold its first public appearance in three years. A great deal of preparation behind the scenes goes into such a program and Fred did a splendid job.

The church was packed with an appreciative crowd who clapped, cheered and joined in with the singing.

The program opened with “Hernando’s Hideaway.” Other songs included “A World of Our Own” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

The solo section of the sea shanty, “The Wellermen” was sung brilliantly by tenor, Peter Williams. The choir looked very colourful and were really enjoying themselves.

Musical director Libby Willems related short anecdotes between songs. The two musicians, Jeremy Allen on keyboard and Bill Carter on bass guitar played with professional expertise.

Bob Yuill was seen in the audience and thanked for the 13 he spent as the choir’s keyboard player and program organiser before he retired.

Local Community Radio, 3BBRFM host Paul Strickland attended and recorded the program.

An hour of popular songs was followed by a tasty afternoon tea where singers and audience mingled and chatted. A most enjoyable afternoon for all.

The choir held its regular meeting the following night and were delighted to welcome back some familiar faces who had hesitated to return after COVID lockdowns, and some new faces too, who had attended the concert and decided to join the group. A total of 54 sang that night.

Margaret, Amanda and Jenny provided scrumptious supper treats.

Singers were treated to Marg Parton and Linton Young providing Suppertime Showcase of two songs with guitar accompaniment. Marg sang “Jolene” to much applause and enthusiasm.

The choir will now be preparing for Christmas Carols in the Park on Friday December 9.
