Tough loss for Warriors

-

Warragul Warriors men sit seventh on the CBL Gippsland ladder after a loss to second placed Maffra Eagles on Saturday night.

Coming off a 26-point win over Morwell Magic, the Warriors started confidently. They were right in the contest at half-time, the Eagles leading 52-50.

However, the Eagles extended their lead to seven at three-quarter time, and the Warriors were unable to peg it back in a low-scoring final quarter.

Jarryd Moss top scored yet again with 23, whilst Riley Morehu, Jordan Gooiker and Jayden McMillin all chipped in with 11 points each.

The 83-97 loss is only the third of the season and yet the Warriors find themselves mid-table. All losses have come to top four teams.

In the women's competition, the Warriors also had a loss to the Eagles.

The Eagles were on top early, leading 22-14 after a high scoring first quarter. Scoring dropped off in a highly contested second quarter and Warriors trailed 21-31 at half-time.

Eagles won the third quarter before Warriors hit back in the last, but it was too late, the Eagles winning 70-61.

Rebecca Orwin led the way with 19 points, with Elloise Campbell shooting 15 and Shanara Notman 12.

Like the men, the women are currently seventh on the ladder with two wins and four losses.

Warriors continue their run of away games this weekend. They will travel to Bass Coast Community Stadium on Sunday to play Wonthaggi Coasters in round six.

The women play at 12noon, followed by the men at 2pm.

The Warriors return to Warragul Leisure Centre for a huge clash against Traralgon T-Birds on Saturday, November 12.
