A train load of bouquets for the wonderful staff battling the tide at the West Gippsland Hospital emergency department. If ever there was a demonstration of the need for a new hospital this is it. The weight being carried by these staff, from doctors, nurses, ward staff, cleaners and all others involved, is enormous and we the public, they are looking after, should thank everyone of them for their ongoing truly magnificent effort.

Bricks to Coles Warragul for increasing the self service checkout and having no regular checkouts open unless you request one and then you have to wait until one is opened. I’ll be checking Woolworths and Aldi out.

Huge bouquets to Garfield bowling club, they have fitted extra grab poles all around the green. It now makes it much, much easier to get on and off the bowling green. I am sure other clubs will see these and hopefully fit similar to their greens. To the volunteers at Garfield Bowling Club, huge thanks.

A huge bouquet to the principal, all students and all staff of Darnum Primary School for organising (at very short notice) the Remembrance Day service at the Darnum War Memorial. You did a great job, well done to you all.

Bricks to Baw Baw Shire for not considering putting up any reduced speed signs up around the Ellinbank Primary School access roads. Just because we are small doesn’t mean we shouldn’t qualify to keep staff, students and their families safe like every other school zone.

Bricks to owners of trucks and trailers who park their vehicles in residential streets every week night and on weekends. VicRoads rules state this is a no-no, and Baw Baw Shire is the enforcing authority.

I and others have complained but if other residents are sick and tired of driving around trucks in residential streets, then please phone council on 1300 229229 to lodge a complaint.

Bouquet to the Shirley Bassey Tribute Act which gave their all at the West Gippsland Arts Centre despite a disappointingly sparse audience. Bouquet also to those who did turn up and gave a rapturous welcome to Rachel Roberts and her backing musicians for a very professional performance.

Bricks to businesses for not stopping for the one minute silence on Remembrance day. Putting profit first over our fallen diggers. No respect at all by the managers.

To the two brick responses (Gazette 8/11) to the fact of using known cancer causes, that is meat and barbecue, to promote cancer research and treatment. Sarcasm and assumption of agenda bias seems a weak defence. Perhaps they could challenge the WHO or leading medical journals on such dietary facts before they assume. After all to assume tends to make as ass out of you and me, but in this instance, mostly you.

Lots of bouquets to the young gentleman who helped us carry bags of soil from Bunnings and put them in the boot of our car. Thank you. You’re a lovely young gentleman. Your parents must be so proud of you.
