-

Warragul celebrated its first B grade win of the season against Maffra on Saturday, inspiring the A grade team to a strong win.

A grade: Warragul 49 defeated Maffra 41

On a lovely day for netball, the Gulls topped

it off with an amazing first quarter of netball. Who would have thought the A grade coach could shoot?

The attacking line-up was unstoppable all game, Sienna Green and Alex Cole’s drive throughout the attacking end really opening up the goal ring.

Renee Nobelius and Kate Emerson worked tirelessly. Any bystander would have thought the two had played lots of netball together.

The Gulls’ defensive end was led by Ella Rees who was very well supported by Lily Sheehan, Selene Chadrawy, Pippa Cook and Mackenzie Minichiello.

It was Pippa’s first A grade game. The team thanked Pippa along with Mackenzie, Naomi Allardyce and Rebecca O’Hallaron for helping out throughout the game.

Awards: Ella Rees, Renee Nobelius and Kate Emerson. B grade: Warragul 53 defeated Maffra 47

It was a fantastic day for the Gulls who got their first win for the season. Everything went their way this week, with goalers Naomi Allardyce and Sophie Fennell shooting above 90 per cent. They were supported by the impressive Bridie Mulqueen and Ella Gaul through the mid, with perfect feeding.

Defenders Mackenzie Minichiello, Pippa Cook and Bec O’Halloran were ruthless and shut Maffra’s attack end down.

The Gulls are looking forward to using the bye next weekend and building on this win.

Awards: Bridie Mulqueen, Pippa Cook, and Sophie Fennell.

C grade: Warragul 26 lost to Maffra 48

The Gulls put on a show against a very strong Maffra side.

An awesome first half, with defensive pressure all down the court, had the girls within six goals at half-time.

However, a poised and practised Maffra ran away with the win in the end.

In a physical hit out, the Gulls started slowly with only three goals after the first quarter.

This saw the inclusion of under 15 player Olivia Barr, who added great pressure down the defence end with Arabell Looby.

Tia Jenkins provided great feeds for the goalers and defensive pressure down the court.

Awards: Olivia Barr and Tia Jenkins.

15 and under: Warragul 19 lost to Maffra 37

A competitive opposition didn’t stop the Gulls from playing a strong four quarters of netball.

Edie Flanagan worked tirelessly in the midcourt alongside Isabelle Nash.

Stella Kittelty was a welcome addition to the team. She provided a reliable option with her speed and ability to change direction.

Awards: Edie Flanagan, Isabelle Nash and Stella Kittelty.

13 and under: Warragul 27 lost to Maffra 49

The final score didn’t go their way, but what an incredible game the Gulls girls played.

Best on went to Evie Jones, who was superstar in goal keeper. Evie did everything her coach asked her to do and was a delight to watch.

Charli Hodge, in wing defence, was exceptionally speedy and covered her opposition brilliantly, also winning an award.

The final award went to goal attack Piper Wilson. Piper’s goaling, rebounding and passes were spot on, she never gave up and played a great game.

The girls are improving each week and the club are super proud of them.
