Nilma North brigade marks 75 years
Nilma North Fire Brigade recently celebrated its 75th anniversary.
The event also was an opportunity to recognise some Nilma North members who have given many years of service to the brigade.
Baw Baw group officer and long time Nilma North member Ted Osler provided a history of the brigade.
This was followed by current Captain Rob Fergusson who described the future he envisioned for Nilma North.
“With our newly renovated and extended station the future is bright for Nilma North,” he said.
“Previously we’ve struggled with membership due to our lack of a township as such, however the expansion of Warragul has given us new impetus and focus for protecting our area and supporting our neighbouring communities.
“I am incredibly proud of our members, and this is a wonderful opportunity to show our community the level of dedication they show,” he said.
Service medals were presented by Commander Greg Fisher and a highlight was
Nilma North life member Bob Black being presented with a 75-year award on the brigade’s 75th anniversary.
The event was attended by current and former Nilma North CFA members and their families, surrounding brigades and the community.
Longwarry and District fire brigade’s catering unit provided a barbecue and the day finished with a celebratory cake fittingly topped with a fire truck.
It was a day full of activities with the colourful new mobile education unit vehicles on display, historical items including an early Austin fire truck from the Fire Services Museum Victoria, (located in East Melbourne), a virtual fire extinguisher display that community members could try and the children’s favourite Captain Koala made an appearance.
