Cats retain top spot in reserves

- by Davyd Reid

NEERIM-NEERIM SOUTH overcame early inaccuracy to comfortably defeat Trafalgar and remain atop the Ellinbank District reserves ladder.

With the match played in blustery conditions, the Cats had 13 behinds on the board before finally breaking through for a goal late in the second term.

The Cats straightened up in the second half, putting through 10-3 to finish 11-17 (83) to Trafalgar's 1-2 (8).

The Cats first came from a deep entry and free kick, and it sent them on their way.

Another two goals followed the half time break to give the Cats a buffer, before Trafalgar hit back with a goal of their own to give them some fading hope.

A snap on goal from a ball up in the pocket, owing to the absence of a boundary umpire, just about put the result beyond doubt heading into the final change.

Tom Zeldenryk, Aaron Mitchell, Samual Edwards, Adam White, Matthew Kelliher and Eddie McGillivray helped the Cats continue their charge, the visitor adding seven goals in a final term onslaught.

Trafalgar were best served by Cooper Minichiello, Jackson Noonan, Ashley James, Tai Langan, Todd Mann and Owen Zimora.

YARRAGON kicked away in the second half to account for Nyora, 12-11 (83) to 4-4 (28).

Holding a narrow nine-point lead at the long break, the Panthers booted eight goals to one in the second half to seal the result.

Nathanael Dungey, Damien Allison, Corey Binzer, Kallym Canobie, Chris Brook and David Bates led the way for Yarragon.

Nyora were best served by Ryan Torelli, Dylan Langhans, Luke Tagliaferro, Andrew Dike, Lincoln Brock and Brayden Browne.

ELLINBANK controlled the contest over Longwarry from the outset, going on to win 11-20 (86) to 2-4 (16).

The Crows did win a tight final term, but the Eagles had already kicked away to a big lead at the final change.

Jake Dean, Sam Barwick, Gaige White, Jayson Barwick, Tony Wright and Jack Cole ensured the Eagles remained in control.

Longwarry were best served by Bailey Osseweyer, John Werner, Kameron Sullivan, James English, Tyson Huston and Phil Dorning.

BULN BULN conceded just one goal on the way to accounting for Nilma-Darnum, 13-16 (94) to 1-1 (7).

The Lyrebirds had some goal kicking woes early, putting through six behinds in the first term, before finding their way.

Bailey Leatham, Jacob Pickthall, Timothy Stoll, Jarrod Castle, Asher Hogan and Brody Pritchard led the way for the visitor.

Robert Campbell, Josh Price, Benjamin Egan, Ethan Phillips, Munashe Munjoma and Chris Cameron were the best for the Bombers.

LANG LANG put in a dominant display for a big win over Poowong, 19-19 (133) to 0-1 (1).

The Tigers booted seven goals to nil in the first term and were never headed.

Jesse Hand, Andrew Thompson, Ryan Floate, Thomas Brennan and Travis Short ensured the Tigers would prove too strong.

The Magpies were best served by Gavin Broad, Brady Rayner, Tyran Lord, Harrison Sheedy and Jackson Glindemann.
