Baw Baw Singers

-

Despite wintry weather, Baw Baw Singers continue to pour into the Drouin Anglican Church Hall on Monday evenings to sing. The hall is well heated and welcoming and there is always a happy buzz of chattering before singing begins.

Members of the choir are presently rehearsing for two upcoming performances in June and there were many “goosebump” moments as old favourites like “The Last Waltz,” “Perhaps Love” and “Younger Than Springtime” were polished. It is a wonderful sensation to feel that thrill and such joy in the simple act of singing.

The choir motto of “Sing, Laugh and Be Happy” was certainly upheld last week.

The two performances are to be held at Fairview on Sunday June 4 and at Lyrebird on Saturday June 24.

Later in the year there may be more performances at Amberley and St Andrew’s House.

The choir is delighted to welcome newcomers, Joshua and Mick. Mick has had experience with another choir in Traralgon. Two extra male voices are a very welcome addition to the group.

Suppertime Showcase entertainment has been first class over the past two weeks. Peter Williams presented another hilarious performance of jokes and songs.

Twins, Jacky and Lesley took members on a tour of Vietnam using large photos and informative and amusing anecdotes. Everyone appreciates the effort which goes into these presentations, and really enjoys them.

Singing is held each Monday night from 7pm to 9pm. Newcomers are welcomed.

No auditions. Lyrics are available in printed form or accessible on your phone or i-pad via bawbawsingers.weebly.com

West Gippsland Orchid Club

The hall was warm, the members were enthusiastic and the guest speaker was most interesting and informative at the May meeting.

The club welcomed three new members to the club and they all won prizes in the raffle which was a good welcome and a start to increasing their orchid collection.

Guest speaker at the June 1 meeting will be a little bit removed from growing orchids. Members will hear from the local taxidermist who will be sharing his story about preserving the animals that are brought to him, which will be interesting.

There will be a bench competition for those lucky enough to have some flowering orchids.

The meeting is on Thursday June 1 at the Drouin Scout Hall which is open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start. The club welcomes everyone interested in growing and learning about orchid culture.
