United juniors taste success

-

It was another successful week for many of Gippsland United teams.

Women’s State League 3: GUFC def. Beaumaris 4-1

It was a dominant display by the girls this week as they move to the top of the table.

Some new additions to the state three squad proved beneficial, with great work by Emma Thornton to control the midfield throughout the match and new signing Chloe Hill scoring a brace and leading the girls to victory.

Goal scorers: Chloe Hill 2, Emma Thornton 1, Remi Davis 1.

Uunder 13 girls: GUFC def. Casey Panthers 4-3 The under 13 girls played Casey Panthers at Baxter Park for the win with a wet match on Sunday resulting in a close game.

Plenty of shots on goal were had, Amelia Freeth scored an amazing goal thanks to Summer Spencer and Almasi Kearey consistently found the ball forward with two goals again this week.

The midfield had a good run with Ruby Reidy and Georgia Nankervis getting plenty of the ball.

Defence was solid in the back line with Taleah Webb and Addison O’Connor working well together. Under 12 girls: GUFC def. Brighton 2-1

The girls came away 2-1 winners in a closely fought match.

All the girls played well against a strong Brighton side that made it hard for Gippsland’s forwards throughout the game.

However, player of the match Amélie Williams and the defence and midfield of Ava Munro, Ruby Reidy and Morgan Knowles stood up and kept creating chances that eventually overwhelmed the Brighton defence.

Sam Burchell in her first game did well, making some good tackles and passes.

Almasi Kearey had to work very hard against a strong defence but found a way to score the goals. Under 11 boys: GUFC def. Barton United 6-1

The under 11 boys were on the road again, this time up against a tough Barton United who took an early lead.

Another strong performance with goals from Zac Robinson (two), Riley Nankervis, Ashton Borg, Alby Harrison and Oliver Fak meant the boys came away 6-1 winners. The team is now undefeated since the opening day of the season - the boys are handling themselves well in the higher division.

Under 12 boys: GUFC drew Skye United 2-2

The under 12s faced Skye United with only nine players available.

The first half was very close with few chances.

Skye were reduced to long range shots and late in the half broke the deadlock with a long-range effort.

Gippsland quickly responded with a goal from Nathan Camier who netted from close range.

The second half was again close and turned into an end-to-end affair with both teams having chances to win the game.

Skye got the breakthrough with five minutes to go, but Gippsland did not give up and put lots of pressure on the Skye goal.

Despite some tired legs, the pressure paid off when Cruz Stellini whipped in a cross which found Oscar Bijl at the far post for a tap in.

In the end the points were shared, as best on ground went to Joseph Handasyde with his usual impressive performance in the heart of defence.
