Youthies cement their spot

-

The Warragul Industrials youth girls have cemented their second-place ladder position after beating fourth-placed Newborough on Sunday in wet and slippery conditions with a 3.2 (20) to 0.5 (5) win.

The season is five rounds in and the Dusties team as a whole have really come together.

This week they showed their best in their team play, individual skills and their determination to attack the ball and support their teammates.

There were many outstanding efforts by the senior players leading the way, and inspiring grit and strength by many of their newer, younger players who are really starting to shine.

Eden Simcocks, a key player in the Dusties forward line, was doggedly determined with her possessions, often being at the bottom of a pack desperate to maintain the ball.

Chelsea Richardson, the side's smallest player, was in on the ball repeatedly for second and third efforts, unafraid of the physicality of the play.

Steph Moreland was a tough and confident opponent in full back, making it difficult for Newborough to score.

She consistently outran and outmarked her opponents, and her kick was instrumental in keeping the ball out of Newborough's forward line.

The Dusties midfielders, Kira and Hayley Wilson, and Hayley Waite were all standouts this week.

It was definitely Jamie Chapman's game. She scored her first goal in her first season playing with the youthies, then followed it up with a second goal and a point in the final quarter, taking the Dusties to a 15-point win.

The whole team played well, making it hard to discern the match day awards.

Coach Mark Leighton was immensely proud of all the girls, particularly the way they attacked the ball, returning again for second and third efforts.

Best on ground for Warragul Industrials were Hayley Wilson, Jamie Chapman, Rianna Jinnette, Stephanie Moreland, Chelsea Richardson and Eden Simcocks.
