Hawks narrowly miss out

-

The Hawks narrowly missed victory on Sunday against the Moe Newborough Allies, losing 2.3 (15) to 3.3 (21).

The game was played at the Drouin Recreation Reserve and saw the Hawks fight hard in an attempt to secure their first win.

The Hawks were up and about from the first siren, but the Allies managed to get ahead with an early goal.

In the second quarter, some great passages of play emerged from the Hawks, who were backing each other up and putting their bodies on the line the entire match.

The Allies showed off some terrific ball skills and were able to get away from the Hawks to score a few points and two more goals throughout the game.

In the final five minutes of quarter four, the Hawks were just 12 points down, but a goal scored after a 50 metre penalty brought them so close to victory they could taste it.

However, they were not able to hit the scoreboard one last time before the end of the match and ended up one goal down at the siren.

Drouin's best on were Christina Missos, Kristy Bottom, Jess Ayres, Jade Snelling, Destiny Norman and Alyssa Fritzlaff.

Next weekend the Hawks will face up against Boisdale/Briagolong at Morwell Recreation Reserve for the inaugural Youth Girls and Women's Gather Round.

The event is being held on June 4 in partnership with AFL Gippsland and AFL Victoria and will kick off at 9am.

Ten games will be played in total and will be accompanied by a junior girl's Footy 4 Fun clinic and half-time Auskick during the two Women's matches.

The Hawks are scheduled to play at 1:30pm.
