Dusties defeated in grand final rematch

-

On Saturday night the Warragul Industrials senior women's division one side hosted Bass Coast at home in a rematch of last year's division two grand final.

Despite the Dusties' best efforts, the visitors managed to exact some revenge, leaving the home side to lick their wounds after a 1.1 (7) to 5.10 (40) defeat.

The first quarter saw the Dusties women came out strong, controlling a lot of the play in the first 10 minutes, before the momentum switched and Bass Coast showed their class.

Two goals to the visitors in the first term, plus another in the second, had the Dusties on the back foot, down 22 points at half time.

Coming back on field after the main break, the Dusties put their heads down and got to work, battering the Bass Coast defence and forcing their first goal through thanks to Rachelle O'Connor.

With only three kicks in it at the start of the final term, the Dusties gave it their all, their belief not wavering.

But in the end, Bass Coast's composure and clean ball movement held up the Dusties' best efforts, the visitors kicking two more goals in the last to leave Western Park with the four points. Best on for Warragul Industrials were Jess Anderson, Monai Porykali, Emily Robinson, Molly Van Berkel, Jess Szalek and Sarah Burns.

The defeat leaves the Dusties at two wins and four losses, but still with a healthy percentage that should have them in good stead if they can get some results.

They will now prepare for a rematch next week against Frankston and will be hoping to turn the tables after going down to the Dolphins in a thriller back in round two.

The Warragul Industrials division two development team came into their match against the top-of-the-table Bonbeach undermanned thanks to a number of players being injured or unavailable.

With just 17 players on hand, the Dusties never stopped trying but were unable to stop the brilliant play of their opponents, going down 0.0 (0) to 15.18 (108).

The home side's best players were Jessica Kemp, Kristy Ingham, Sophie Jones, Bonnie Price, Keryn Galloway and Lily Baldwin.

The division two side will face off with Red Hill at home next week.
