Magpies punish Panthers

POOWONG continued its recent run of form to account for Yarragon and enter the Ellinbank District football top five.

Three-time league best and fairest winner Jack Hazendonk again led his side to another valuable win over another rival in the mid-pack, the Magpies winning 11-5 (71) to 5-10 (40).

Poowong kicked out to an early 16-point lead with four goals to one in the first term, its accurate return of 6-0 to half time helping it to a 13-point buffer at half time.

The Magpies made their move in the third term, adding three goals to nil to open up a 30-point lead at the last change.

Two goals apiece eventuated in the final term as the Magpies remained in control, Conor Cunningham, Andrew Logan, Mitchell van't Hof, Charlie Koscal and Micah Williames also key players.

Yarragon were best served by Ryan Devine, Trav Davis, Taylor Rainey, Andrew Chadwick and Sam van der Zalm.

NEERIM-NEERIM SOUTH moved to third on the ladder with a big win over Lang Lang, 26-15 (171) to 3-5 (23).

The Cats booted six goals to one in the first term and the free-flowing scoring continued, adding returns of five, six and nine in a dominant display.

While Lachlan Bambridge was kept quiet with just one major, other forwards filled their boots led by Chris Urie and Thomas Crole, each with six goals. Luke Kinder also chipped in with five majors.

Kody Wilson, Nathan Bayne and Tyssen Morrow allowed them plenty of opportunit­y, while Matthew Edwards continues to defend well.

Lang Lang were best served by Brad Harding, Kaden Finlay smith, Lachlan Trudgeon, Joshua Brown and Luke Clark.

BULN BULN maintained its unbeaten start, comfortabl­y accounting for Catani 15-13 (103) to 7-9 (51).

The Lyrebirds made a fast start with the opening five goals to send them on their way.

The Blues' best effort came in the second and third terms, matching their more fancied opponents with six goals apiece.

With a five-goal buffer at the final change, the Lyrebirds went on with it to finish strong and win the final quarter.

Mitch Nobelius, Hayden Baker, Jake Baker, Jacob Pickthall, Will Battley (playing his first senior game) and Matthew Gray helped Buln Buln maintain the advantage.

Leading Catani's competitiv­e effort across the middle terms were Tyson Robinson, Mitchell Latimer, Tom Carpenter, Lauchlan Gregson, Callum May and Cody Fleming.
