Exciting win for Gulls

-

Some exciting netball was played when Warragul travelled to Wonthaggi on Saturday.

A grade: Warragul 48 defeated Wonthaggi 42

Another exciting win for the Gulls, with incredible efforts by the entire team.

With goalers Renee Nobelius and Kate Emerson shooting at above 90 per cent accuracy, they were unstoppable in the ring together.

Defenders Selene Chadrawy and Mackenzie Minichiello kept the strong Wonthaggi goalers under wraps, with the support of young gun Pippa Cook.

The club believe it is an exciting time at the Gulls netball.

Best on: Selene Chadrawy. Awards: Pippa Cook and Kate Emerson.

B grade: Warragul 31 lost to Wonthaggi 52

It was a tough day for the B grade girls, with four impact players out of the side.

The girls on court worked tirelessly to keep themselves in the game, but we’re no match for Wonthaggi.

Best on: Bec O’Halloran.

Award: Arabell Looby.

C grade: Warragul 23 lost to Wonthaggi 31

A well fought game for the Gulls who were unfortunately not strong enough on the day.

Best on went to Ash Paul for her strength through the midcourt.

Ash was supported by second best on Charli Hendriske and under 15s player Olivia Barr.

17 and under: Warragul 11 lost to Wonthaggi 62

A dominant Wonthaggi was unstoppable for the depleted Warragul side in the first quarter.

However, in the second quarter, the Gulls showed great determination by scoring six goals.

Tia Jenkins worked tirelessly, making continuous strong drives down the court and contesting the ball.

Under 15s player Alishia Smith stepped up and worked tirelessly in defence with Arabell Looby. They gained plenty of tips in and around the ring.

Awards: Alishia Smith, Tia Jenkins and Mackenzie Heenan.

15 and under: Warragul 26 lost to Wonthaggi 32

This was a competitive match that was exciting for players and spectators alike.

Solid effort from Ella Black, Isabelle Nash and Edie Flanagan who provided valuable midcourt options and were consistent throughout the game.

Awards: Olivia Barr and Alisha Smith who worked well together in defence and Audrey Simpson who was strong in goals.

13 and under: Warragul 9 lost to Wonthaggi 13

In a close game, the Gulls played well but just couldn’t get the win they all so desperately wanted.

Captain Finlay Heenan didn’t give up on her team. Her encouragement and support to the girls all game showed brilliant captain skills.

The defensive pressure on the goalers was a standout, with both goal defence Finlay Heenan and goal keeper Evie Jones receiving awards for their games.

The other award winner was Billie Gray. Billie played centre and didn’t give up. Her leads and defensive pressure all game were excellent.

With the game being so close, the girls are looking forward to the next time they play Wonthaggi and hope to get the win.
