Connecting volunteers
Warragul resident Scott Goldman is looking to make the area a better place for volunteers and community groups.
Earlier this year he launched “Baw
Baw Community Connect”, a community Facebook page dedicated to connecting volunteers with the organisations that need them most.
The group’s slogan is “connecting hearts, strengthening community”.
Mr Goldman said he came up with the idea when he moved back to Warragul and tried to volunteer locally. He found the process challenging and felt an online platform would make it easier.
While the group was “still in its infancy”, he said, it had garnered lots of interest from community members.
Mr Goldman is in the process of contacting local organisations and inviting them to promote volunteering opportunities in the group.
“There are so many great community groups out there.”
Mr Goldman hopes the group will grow and become more active in the future, helping people to forge new community connections and friendships.
So far, community groups like U3A Baw Baw, St Vincent de Paul, Latrobe Valley Bee Keepers, Baw Baw Prostate Cancer Support Group, and Olivia’s Place have contributed to the group, advertising volunteer roles and opportunities.
Mr Goldman said lots of people weren’t aware of the number of local volunteering opportunities there were available, and social media was the way forward. By promoting these groups on Baw Baw Community Connect, he hoped he could help organisations and volunteers develop mutually beneficial relationships that benefit the wider community.
