New era under Lamb

-

It's been the dawn of a new era for Warragul's senior football sides this year under new coach Jed Lamb.

Lamb, who enjoyed an eight-year stint in the AFL from 2011-18, successfully returned to his junior club last season, kicking 70 goals in 18 games.

Unfortunately for him, his first year at the reins has been one cruelled by a number of season-ending injuries, including one to himself.

The footy gods have not looked kindly upon the Gulls, with crutches being a common sight at quarter time and three quarter time huddles.

Lamb suffered an ACL injury in round five against Traralgon, and joined a host of regular senior players such as Mitch Smart, Will Cole, Tom Hobbs and Vinnie Caia on the sidelines, just to name a few.

It's certainly pushed the side's depth, and is particularly frustrating given they were just weeks ago two wins and two losses, seemingly pushing for the top five.

Regardless, the club is sticking fat and staying optimistic that their best is yet to come.

Adversity brings opportunity, and the Gulls have already begun to blood some of their talented youth, with young up-and-coming stars Riley Senini and Lucas Carter having made their senior debuts recently.

The team still has plenty of tools to work with, including star onballer Nick Mulqueen, strong interceptor Sean Masterson and imposing ruckman Sam Whibley, among others.

Younger players still finding their way in senior footy, such as Liam Serong, Kai MacLean and Cooper Alger, will also give them upside moving ahead.

Unfortunately the club's injury issues have also left the reserves side depleted, but they'll be putting their best foot forward, and will particularly look forward to their round 12 match against Drouin as a match to show their best against the old rivals.
