Dragons draw

-

Drouin Dragons played a well fought out 4-4 draw against Inverloch Red in GSL under 12A action on Sunday.

The teams took to the pitch on a crisp morning to play in deep mud.

Dragons came out switched on, setting up plays through the midfield and attacking as a unit to keep Inverloch’s stand-in keeper Moore on his toes performing acrobatic dives and fingertip saves.

Inverloch defenders Thornhill, Moore and Bellaires formed a formidable barrier, but a fast turn and snap shot saw Drouin hit the net.

Inverloch quickly responded with a long run up the field from striker Panyo, ending in a well-placed goal. Tireless Panyo then scored again.

Accurate passing and well set up passages of play ended in success for Drouin with another goal.

Now it was Inverloch’s turn to attack as a unit. Sharp, the two Kosters weaved through Drouin’s defence, allowing L. Koster to shoot and score. Inverloch led 3-2 at half-time.

Drouin came out firing in the second half, scoring an equaliser in the first 10 minutes.

Both teams slipped and slid in the mud as the game was driven back and forth in a real nail-biter.

Bellairs was everywhere, driving play forward from the centre back. His efforts were shut down by a solid Drouin defence. His persistence eventually paid off with a powerful shot from outside the box to score in the top corner.

With Inverloch in the lead and time running low, both teams kept attacking hard. Drouin pressed and were rewarded in the last five minutes when their striker snuck though a well-placed equaliser.

Under 17: Drouin Dragons White lost to Phillip Island Breakers 1-3

Having lost to the Dragons earlier in the season, the Breakers were keen to get the three points back on Sunday.

Josh Vojkovic was named captain and played at centre back. Vojkovic stood strong throughout the game and was winning the ball from any attack, feeding it quickly to the midfielders.

It was around the 12 minute mark when Dean Rizzo made a break through the midfield and slotted a nice goal past the Drouin keeper. Phillip Island’s Jad Ellaz was next to join the scorer’s sheet to lead 2-0.

To Drouin’s credit, they continued to pressure the defenders and were awarded a penalty in the 32nd minute and scored.

In the second half, the Breakers were pushing into the wind. Through great passing, they managed to get the ball to Jad Ellaz’s feet for him to score his second goal.

Drouin kept challenging but couldn’t match the skill of the midfield and defence.
