Tigers upset Eagles

-

LANG LANG may have turned its form around, scoring an upset over second-placed Ellinbank in a low scoring affair at Caldermeade in round nine of Ellinbank District football.

The Tigers prevailed 5-9 (39) to 4-7 (31) as Ellinbank struggled to get its recent free flowing scoring going, a surprise given the rare still conditions experienced at the Lang Lang venue.

Lang Lang showed improved form on recent weeks, backing up its fast ball movement with good skills.

The class of Ellinbank kept the visitor in the contest, making most of their limited opportunities to keep them in the contest.

Goals proved hard to come by for either side, only the in-form Shaun Phelan breaking through for a brace.

The Eagles took a narrow five-point lead into the first change before a Tigers response saw them hold a slight edge through out the remainder of the contest.

Lang Lang turned the tables in the second term, kicking two goals to one to take a narrow two-point lead into half time.

They repeated the dose in the third term to hold an eight-point buffer heading into the final change.

A torrid final term ensued despite the favourable conditions; each side trading minors to register three behinds apiece.

Dylan Gallasch, Brad Harding, Kaden Finlay-Smith, Joseph Dalgleish, Daniel Reid and Brett Kirkham helped the Tigers to an upset win.

Keeping Ellinbank in the contest were Bryce Joyce, Ryan Atherton, Liam Anderson, Rylan Smith, Ashley Scott and Nicholas Pratt, a sense of frustration in letting one slip evident on the final siren.
