Gulls win all three senior games

Warragul netballers had strong wins across all three senior grades at Western Park against Sale on Saturday.

A grade: Warragul 55 defeated Sale 44 After a strong first half, the girls knew they had to do more to come away with the win.

The second half saw some brilliant play to a team that keeps getting better every week.

Awards: Sienna Green, Ella Rees and Kate Emerson.

B grade: Warragul 50 defeated Sale 46

A massive turnaround from last week saw the Gulls come away with an exciting win.

A positional change saw Naomi Allardyce return to the midcourt alongside Bridie Mulqueen and Ella Gaul, whilst Bella Hefford was back into the goal ring.

The exciting combinatio­n of Bella and Sophie Fennell was unstoppabl­e in the goal ring.

Defenders Bec O’Halloran and Kenz Minichiell­o kept the strong Sale goalers under wraps.

It was fantastic to see young gun Ash Paul step up after a few injuries.

C grade: Warragul 45 defeated Sale 26

This game saw real team commitment, with all the girls backing each other up and playing four quarters as a unit.

What the girls have been working on at training is carrying through to game day, and finally secured that win.

Shooting superstars Kim Weller and Steph Paul shot more than 20 goals each.

17 and under: Warragul 14 lost to Sale 57

A tall Sale side kept Warragul to only two goals in the first quarter.

However, Warragul was able to build on this and continue to score through Hannah Davis and Laine Gowans.

Tia Jenkins provided great defensive pressure down the court. Alishia Smith provided great defensive pressure and tips, along with Arabell Looby and Molly Young.

Awards: Mackenzie Heenan and Tia Jenkins.

15 and under: Warragul 12 lost to Sale 68 The Gulls displayed great perseveran­ce against a strong opposition.

The team welcomed Stella Looby who was a valuable asset in goals.

Awards went to Rharni Cooper who worked hard in the centre, Audrey Simpson who was tireless in goals and Milla Tworkowski for her support in the midcourt.

13 and under: Warragul 3 lost to Sale 53

It was a tough game for the Gulls, with two players unavailabl­e and only seven players.

At half-time, the girls wanted to play out of their normal positions, which brought a lot of laughter and fun.

Award winners were Piper Wilson, Taya Watson and Charli Hodge. Piper moved from goals to defence, providing incredible skills in both ends. She is a strong, determined player who doesn’t make is easy for her opponent.

Taya wasn’t letting her opponent get to the ball easy. She worked hard at her leads and defensive skills.

Charli, the speedy midcourt player, again showed off her never give up attitude. Even when in goal shooter, she worked exceptiona­lly hard.
