Discovering learning at CCG
Community College Gippsland (CCG) recently hosted a “Discover CCG” day at its Warragul campus.
The open day was held to bring students, private and government school stakeholders and community members together to better understand what CCG does and to forge relationships and create opportunities for future collaborations.
CCG has provided community-based adult and vocational education and training for more than 40 years across Gippsland and south east Melbourne and also provides secondary school education to younger people through its independent ECG Secondary College. The secondary school provides alternative pathways towards education through a different learning environment.
A Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and registered charity, CCG also delivers a wide range of accredited courses from certificate I through to diploma level at its campuses in Warragul, Dandenong, Pakenham and Leongatha. The college’s focus is on practical learning to give students industry relevant skills while helping to grow the skill capacity of Victorian businesses.
Attendees were able to learn more about what services CCG provides to students and potential employers.
Those visiting also learnt more about the secondary college and experienced the creativity of students through an arts and crafts exhibition. Other information presented on the day included the college’s learner driver programs, sports and recreation opportunities and a music performance from the college’s all ability music group.
CCG chief executive officer Dale Gemmell said the day was successful with more than 160 people attending.
“Discover CCG was a new concept for us, aimed at bringing together people from the community to find out about who we are and what we do. It was also an opportunity for representatives from a broad range of likeminded community groups and businesses to come together with a view to formulating partnerships and exploring opportunities to collaborate,” he said.
“We look forward to growing the relationships that were created to further fulfil CCG’s Purpose, which is to provide quality, inclusive and innovative learning opportunities to realise potential and benefit the community.”
Latrobe Valley Authority chief executive officer Chris Buckingham agreed the day was a great success. “It was fantastic to see so many young people engaged in activities across the College. The team at CCG have done a terrific job reactivating the Warragul campus. It is a special place with a beautiful energy and we were proud to be involved in the day.”
