Warragul Ranges Probus Club held its annual general meeting on Thursday, March 28 at the Warragul Country Club.

Rotary club’s representative Bob Lewis chaired the meeting. Outgoing president Peter Gilbert reflected on the club’s past year and praised club members and office bearers for their continued participation in providing numerous options and activities for club members.

All positions were declared vacant and all except one was filled.

New president Jan Maclean addressed those present and spoke of her commitment and enthusiasm for the coming year.

Warragul Camera Club

On Monday April 1, 27 club members and one guest attended the April general meeting, held at Warragul RSL, and saw the Warragul Camera Club’s members’ competition entries for A Nautical Look at Life – a total 98 entries were received.

Vice president Robyn Rosenboom welcomed visiting judge Darryl Whitaker from Latrobe Valley Camera Club.

As a mark of respect, Robyn advised members Bert Rance’s death. Bert instigated successful recruitment drives for the club. He was a long time member who continually supported the club in many ways.

Jack Gargasz, presented the digital images for the competition on the large projector screen, and Ron Paynter displayed the photographic prints on the easel. The club’s website features the monthly competition entries for the public to view.

Darryl Whitaker has recently returned from a complete navigation of Tasmania in his sailing boat and was delighted to be asked to judge a competition with a nautical theme. He is very approachable and constructive in his judging and gave a high energy presentation without notes. His tips and ideas on equipment selection, composition and exposure were greatly appreciated by club members.

A Nautical Look at Life Competition results:

Reminder for Bruce Langdon’s “Understanding Your Camera” workshop April 15 is for all grades of photographers. Subjects will revisit useful tips and lens selection. Registration on the club calendar is essential. The Interclub competition with Phillip Island Camera Club will be “open” and conducted as a Zoom presentation. Further information will be advised in due course.

Annual club membership fees are due in May and they will be the same amounts as 2023 fees.

Adrienne Cornish, chair, 51st Warragul National Competition and Exhibition, stated there has been 1450 entries received. Adrienne spoke about the sorting day at Crossover School on April 8 and competition judging day on April 13. Adrienne would like more volunteers to register for these two important events. They will be enjoyable and a great way to learn about the National Competition. Lunch is available on the judging day, and Terrie O’Dwyer will be making a booking for the evening meal at a local venue. Dietary requirements need to be finalised immediately.

The meeting concluded with the screening of Terrie O’Dwyer’s AV of “Blue Water Lotus Gardens” outing, followed by Ron Paynter’s clever AV “Drouin Birding Expedition” which featured outstanding photography of hundreds of local birds in flight in a protected environment. Lastly, Darryl Whitaker presented a beautiful and spectacular AV of his Tasmania circa navigation journey by sailing boat early in 2024.

The next club outing will be midweek at Pt Leo Estate at Merricks – 11am, Wednesday April 17, organised by Kayren Browne.

Next club general meeting will be held Monday, May 6, when the judging results for “Close Up” images will be announced. “Open” is the next club competition and entries close May 6.

Club meetings are held the first Monday each month and visitors are welcome. For further membership information please visit the club website www.warragulcameraclub.org
