New stadium nears completion

-

Finishing touches are being made to the new $11 million stadium in Warragul ahead of a planned July opening.

Located at Warragul Leisure Centre, the stadium offers two new indoor courts.

Baw Baw Shire said buildings works are on track to be completed by May 30.

After a moving-in period, local basketballers and netballers can expect to hit the new courts from July or August.

Works completed since the start of the year include a linkway between the new and existing stadium, basketball hoops and scoreboards installed, timber flooring battens placed into position and concrete poured for the main carpark at Wills and Spring Sts.

In addition, internal lining for the stadium is 80 per cent completed and the building’s surrounding concrete footpath is 75 per cent completed.

Baw Baw Shire said works still to be completed include the main carpark entrances and line marking for 85 spaces, vehicle turnaround area in front of the linkway with 35 carparks, fixed seating for 400 spectators, sanding, polishing and line marking of the timber flooring and general project finalisation including plumbing, cabinetry and flooring.

In addition to the courts, the stadium will offer a new cafe and kitchen, referee changeroom, first aid room, storage facilities, swim club storage, and a Changing Places changeroom to support people with disabilities.

The fence between the stadium and outdoor pool is expected to be removed shortly to enable views over the pool and there is scope for a lift to be added to offer second level access.
